US and China unveil plan to cut tariffs on 1,696 goods worth 30 billion dollars per side
The United States and China have released further details of their plan to cut tariffs on goods not classified as sensitive, covering a total of 1,696 product codes set to receive tariff reductions, worth 30 billion dollars per side, or 60 billion dollars combined, following last week's summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping. Of that total, 77 product codes are Chinese goods exported to the United States, including fireworks, household appliances, sporting goods and toys. On the US side, 1,619 product codes will be exported to China, including meat, seafood, dairy products, grains, coal, timber and medical equipment. Bloomberg reported that the 60 billion dollar measure is one of the most concrete outcomes of the Chinese leader's official visit to the United States, even though it represents only a small fraction of total trade between the two countries, which stood at 415 billion dollars in 2025. The two countries also agreed to extend their trade truce until January 10, 2027, from its previous expiry date of November 10 this year. China said the tariff cuts will take effect simultaneously once both sides complete their domestic legal procedures, and that 90% of the goods in the plan will see tariffs lowered to the same rate as most-favored-nation tariffs. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the selected goods are not in the sensitive category and therefore have a greater chance of receiving favorable tariff treatment. After the details were published, shares of some Chinese appliance makers rose, led by Joyoung, which surged to its 10% limit, while Bear Electric Appliance jumped 9.5%.
