German American Bancorp Faces Efficiency and EPS Concerns Despite Recent Rally

German American Bancorp has returned 23.7% over the past six months, outpacing the S&P 500 by 14.4%, but analysts highlight three risks that temper enthusiasm. The bank's projected efficiency ratio of 51.2% for the next 12 months is seen as unexciting, while earnings per share grew at a compounded annual rate of just 5.3% over five years, lagging its 11.5% revenue growth. Tangible book value per share increased only 1.5% annually over five years, though it accelerated to 11.6% annual growth in the past two years to $20.08. The stock trades at 1.4 times forward price-to-book, a valuation deemed reasonable but not a clear opportunity.
GABC · Capital · Negative Analysts highlight risks: unexciting efficiency ratio, low EPS growth, and modest tangible book value growth.
