Metallica opened its Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere Las Vegas this week, the first residency from a heavy-metal band at the venue. The 24-show engagement is built around the band's "No Repeat Weekend" format, meaning its Thursday and Saturday performances will feature entirely different setlists, and the run is scheduled to conclude on March 13, 2027. Reviews of the opening night, performed in front of 17K fans, were very positive across media sites and social media, with James Hetfield telling the crowd, "This is a dream come true and beyond." Sphere's Wizard of Oz Tops $500 Million in Ticket Sales

Sphere Entertainment's The Wizard of Oz has generated more than $500 million in ticket sales since opening in Las Vegas last year, giving the company a fresh sign of strong demand for its flagship attraction. More than 4 million tickets have been sold since the show debuted on August 28, 2025, Sphere said on Friday, and the company introduced new 4D effects including animatronic Winged Monkeys, themed scents, scented apples, fireworks, and Glinda Glitter. The milestone comes as investors debate whether demand for the show can remain strong into the final quarter of the year, with BTIG saying its data showed attendance and average ticket prices fell in the third quarter while October pricing trends have been mixed. The brokerage expects both measures to improve in the fourth quarter, which is seasonally stronger for Sphere, though analyst Tyler DiMatteo wrote that the key question is the convexity of the move between the two. DiMatteo called the Wizard of Oz business objectively a success over its first full year, while noting investors remain divided over near-term trends, with bears focused on ticketing data and a possible brief content air pocket and bulls looking to growth in sponsorships and potential new Sphere venues and content. BTIG maintained its Buy rating and $190 price target, implying about 34.6% upside from the stock's last close.

Sphere targets National Harbor opening in under four years with third-party financing and $200 million in incentives

Sphere Entertainment is advancing plans for a Sphere venue at National Harbor, expecting to complete a third-party financing agreement in the near term that would be in addition to $200 million in state, local and private incentives. Executive Chairman and CEO James Dolan said the contemplated financing would give Sphere full day-to-day operational control, allow it to consolidate the venue’s financials, and retain more of its economics, with the venue potentially opening in under four years. The company has filed a detailed site plan with Prince George’s County and is working toward permits. Meanwhile, construction is underway on a Sphere in Abu Dhabi on Yas Island, targeted for completion by the end of 2029. Dolan also noted that The Wizard of Oz at Sphere has sold nearly 3.6 million tickets for approximately $450 million in ticket sales, and a new experience, The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere, is expected to debut in 2027.

The firm noted that ongoing success in Las Vegas makes selling future Sphere venues easier, and that Sphere Abu Dhabi remains on track despite regional conflict concerns. Sphere also announced a new immersive experience, 'Rocky Horror Picture,' which is expected to add incremental high-margin shows and increase utilization. The advisory expressed willingness to let the position grow large given the quality of the asset and management, even at a higher valuation, while pointing to positive year-over-year visitation trends in Las Vegas and the exosphere as an emerging high-margin revenue driver.
