SBI Completes Full Acquisition of Bitbank; CEO Hirosue to Stay On

Bitbank, which operates a cryptocurrency exchange, announced on October 1 that the procedure to make it a wholly owned subsidiary of SBI Holdings has been completed. The two companies had announced the signing of an agreement toward the full acquisition on June 25, and the series of transactions was completed on October 1 when Bitbank acquired its own shares from existing shareholders MIXI and Ceres. The move will have no impact on Bitbank's services, and users will be able to continue using them as before. Accordingly, SBI VC Trade President Tomohiko Kondo has taken a position as a director of Bitbank. Meanwhile, Noriyuki Hirosue of Bitbank will continue to serve as representative director, president and CEO, and is also set to become an outside director of SBI VC Trade.
