Alibaba Group Holding LtdAlibaba unveiled its most powerful AI chip yet, the Zhenwu V900, with 3x the performance of its prior chip and plans for mass production in Q1 2027.
Alibaba Group shares rose 4% to $120.36 after the company unveiled its most powerful AI chip yet, the Zhenwu V900, at Alibaba Cloud's annual conference in Hangzhou. CEO Eddie Wu said the chip, designed by Alibaba's semiconductor arm T-Head, delivers three times the performance of the chip Alibaba released earlier this year, with larger memory and greater bandwidth, and that a single cluster can link up to 500,000 chips to train and run frontier AI models. Alibaba has scheduled mass production and commercial release of the V900 for the first quarter of 2027, and every performance claim is vendor-reported and has not been independently benchmarked. The bull case rests on U.S. export controls that have kept NVIDIA's most advanced AI accelerators out of the Chinese market, with NVIDIA having excluded China data-center compute revenue from its Q3 FY2027 outlook, according to Alibaba. Baidu, which develops its own Kunlunxin AI accelerators, was essentially unchanged at $92.45, up 0.3%, signaling the market is treating the move as a company-specific win for Alibaba rather than a sector-wide re-rating.
