Tesla IncPresident Donald Trump has named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to lead a new White House artificial intelligence task force, giving the intelligence chief a prominent role in shaping the administration's approach to AI risks and U.S. competitiveness. Clayton, who became intelligence director in August, will oversee a panel expected to deliver recommendations within 120 days, according to The Wall Street Journal. The group, which the administration calls the "Super Intelligence Force," will examine both the opportunities and potential dangers posed by increasingly powerful AI systems. The panel will include senior administration officials, with Emil Michael, Scott Kupor and Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson serving as vice chairs, while Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles are also expected to participate. Outside advisers will include former AI adviser David Sacks and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The task force will examine existing systems for reporting AI-related security breaches, cyberattacks and other incidents, and will recommend ways the federal government can improve its response using existing legal authority, suggesting at least some measures may not require new legislation.
