Chinese Robot Stocks Rally as Musk Predicts Global Humanoid Fleet Will Hit 1 Billion in 10 Years
Chinese robot-sector stocks rose today, September 24, after Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, predicted that the number of humanoid robots worldwide will reach at least 1 billion within 10 years. In an interview with China Media Group, Musk said humanoid robot production is expected to surge in the coming years and that the number of such robots could reach as many as 10 billion within 15 years. The boost lifted shares of robot component makers including Ningbo Joyson Electronic, Ningbo Tuopu Group and Zhejiang Sanhua Intelligent Controls by between 1% and 8%. The sector is also closely tied to Optimus, Tesla's humanoid robot. Last week, Chinese robot stocks jumped after local media reported that Tesla had begun a new round of production-process audits across the Optimus supply chain. The gains were limited, however, as rising global bond yields weighed on technology stocks broadly.
