Block's Cash App Launches Bitcoin Bonus Feature, Dorsey Urges Users to Opt In
Block CEO Jack Dorsey urged users on Wednesday to opt in to Cash App's new Bitcoin bonus feature, writing "turn it on" while quoting the platform's announcement. The feature lets users earn weekly rewards of up to 2% in BTC annually simply by holding Bitcoin in the app, with rewards funded directly and no lockup, lending, staking, or moving of users' BTC, keeping holdings available for withdrawal at any time. The bonuses are taxable, and users must opt in through the Bitcoin tab in the app to become eligible. Cash App serves as Block's primary consumer-focused ecosystem, and its second-quarter volume grew 17% year over year to $56.5 billion, driven by the Visa-powered Cash App Card and buy-now-pay-later credit, while Consumer Lending origination volume grew 59% year over year to $18.9 billion. Block has also placed a significant bet on Bitcoin's utility as a medium of exchange, deploying payment capabilities within its Square point-of-sale system.
Fiserv Launches Roughrider Stablecoin on Solana for North Dakota Bank Settlement
Fiserv has launched the Roughrider stablecoin, a bank-to-bank settlement token built on Solana. Versa Bank issues the bank-only token, which serves a North Dakota network of more than 90 banks and credit unions. The coin is designed for interbank settlement among those institutions rather than for consumer retail use, replacing legacy systems such as Swift and ACH with near-instant, near-zero-fee transfers. The North Dakota effort is separate from a national network of regional and community banks that is launching its own bank stablecoin network. Because the token runs on Solana, its growth could drive demand for the network's gas fees.
Mastercard Expands Agent Pay With New AI Trust Services
Mastercard is expanding Agent Pay with new trust and intelligence services designed to help banks and merchants assess AI-led transactions more accurately. The first tool, now entering U.S. testing, assigns a probability score indicating whether a transaction was initiated by an AI agent, and over time the score will incorporate more data to help banks and merchants make better-informed approval decisions. Industry projections cited in the announcement suggest that one in 10 consumers could routinely use AI agents to make purchases by 2030, and as AI agents buy across multiple merchants their activity may look different from typical human transactions, raising the risk that legitimate purchases are flagged as suspicious. Partnerships with Cloudflare and Skyfire could provide more information to identify trusted agents and confirm the purpose of transactions, while using identity, fraud and transaction data could help Mastercard improve payment security and reduce unnecessary declines. The near-term earnings impact is likely limited, but the longer-term opportunity is clearer, as better transaction decisions could reduce legitimate purchase declines and support payment volume growth. Competitors are building similar infrastructure: Visa's Intelligent Commerce portfolio includes Agent Scoring, an Agentic Registry and a Trusted Agent Protocol, while PayPal is taking a more merchant-focused approach that lets AI agents discover products, manage shopping carts and complete purchases across online stores.

Mastercard Buys Stablecoin Infrastructure Provider BVNK, Adds AI Commerce Safeguards
Mastercard announced the acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK, targeting digital asset settlement capabilities, and introduced new AI-powered trust and intelligence services designed to monitor and secure agentic commerce transactions. Management positioned the BVNK deal and the agentic commerce safeguards as a response to evolving digital asset rules and AI-driven payment risks. The BVNK acquisition and the new agentic commerce trust tools are only one part of Mastercard's broader payments technology ambitions. The BVNK purchase turns stablecoin plumbing into a concrete extension of Mastercard's value added stack, tying into Agent Pay and SoFiUSD settlement and giving the firm more control over how blockchain based flows interact with its fraud, identity and behavioral tools. The push also increases Mastercard's reliance on complex technology and regulatory regimes where rivals such as Visa and Stripe are active.
Fiserv Launches Digital Asset Platform With Roughrider Coin Pilot
Fiserv's Digital Asset Platform went live on October 1, 2026, providing white-label stablecoin infrastructure to its roughly 10,000 financial institution clients. The first deployment is the Roughrider Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin issued by the Bank of North Dakota, with minting, burning, custody and reserve asset management handled by VersaBank and secure digital asset infrastructure provided by Fireblocks. The permissioned, bank-to-bank money movement tool runs on Solana using Token-2022 program extensions, and the pilot involves over 90 participating banks and credit unions in North Dakota. The platform is enabled through existing technology at no additional cost to clients via the Fiserv Commercial Center, and regulatory clarity comes from Section 4(c) of the GENIUS Act, which creates a framework for state-qualified issuers under $10 billion. Sunil Sachdev, head of embedded finance and digital assets at Fiserv, called the launch an important milestone, while the transition from Michael Lyons to Takis Georgakopoulos as CEO suggests the firm's digital asset strategy may still be in flux.

BMO Becomes First Mastercard Issuer in Canada to Embed Virtual Commercial Card Payments
BMO and Mastercard announced a new embedded Commercial payments capability that lets eligible Corporate Card clients initiate and manage BMO Commercial virtual card payments directly inside the software platforms they use to run their operations, making BMO the first Mastercard issuer in Canada to offer an integrated embedded finance and payment experience by virtual card within participating platform integrations. The solution, now available for eligible clients in Canada and the United States, integrates Commercial payments into enterprise resource planning, procurement, accounts payable and travel management systems so businesses can manage payments inside their existing workflows. By integrating BMO Commercial virtual cards into participating software platforms through Mastercard's Commercial Express framework, eligible clients can execute secure payments for supplier invoices, travel and corporate expenses without leaving their primary operational workflows, while the framework gives participating platforms a standardized way to enable issuer-backed virtual card payments and reduce implementation complexity. Seth Blacher, Head of TPS Product Management and Payments Modernization at BMO, said the partnership removes the friction between finance software and payment execution, and Diane Miquelon, Senior Vice President, Financial Institutions Partnerships, Mastercard Canada, said embedding virtual card capabilities directly into the platforms where treasury and finance teams operate removes friction, enhances payment security and helps organizations optimize working capital management. BMO Financial Group is the eighth largest bank in North America by assets, with total assets of $1.5 trillion as of July 31, 2026.
European payment firms form joint venture ENP to take on US Visa and Mastercard in cross-border payments
European payment companies including Spain's Bizum, Italy's Bancomat and the Brussels-based European Payment Initiative, which operates Wero, announced on the 30th that they will set up a joint venture to interconnect national payment systems and cooperate on cross-border payments. The joint venture will be called European Network for Payments, or ENP, and will be based in Madrid, Spain. SIBS-MB Way and Vipps MobilePay are also joining the cooperation, and these companies together have about 130 million users across 13 European countries, more than 70 percent of the population of the European Union and Norway. By uniting, the European players aim to challenge US payment giants Visa and Mastercard, which hold a large share of payments in Europe. The cooperation will allow existing payment systems to interconnect through a common technical and operational infrastructure based on European standards and through instant account-to-account payments. They also said the digital euro, a central bank digital currency the European Central Bank plans to introduce by 2029, could complement the effort in the future.

Mastercard Closes BVNK Deal as UK Opens Stablecoin Gateway
Mastercard completed its acquisition of BVNK for up to $1.8 billion on August 3, 2026, more than double the London-based fiat-to-stablecoin payments firm's $750 million valuation from its December 2024 Series B. The deal follows Stripe's $1.1 billion purchase of Bridge in late 2024, and in June 2026 a consortium of more than 140 companies including Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase and BlackRock unveiled Open USD, a stablecoin whose news sent Circle's stock down 17% that day. Visa, which had used BVNK as a stablecoin settlement partner before losing it to Mastercard, issued an RFP on August 18 for a replacement licensed in the US, Canada, UK and Singapore, and Visa Ventures invested $10 million in London startup Velocity as a $10 million add-on to its Series A, bringing the total to $48 million, while Visa's stablecoin settlement run rate roughly doubled to about $7 billion annualized by its fiscal second quarter. On September 30, 2026, the UK's Financial Conduct Authority opened its authorisation gateway for cryptoasset firms including stablecoin issuers, with applications running through February 28, 2027 and full enforcement set for October 25, 2027, while in the US seven agencies missed their one-year rulemaking deadline for the GENIUS Act on July 18, 2026, leaving only NPRMs published ahead of a January 18, 2027 effective date. HSBC's HKD stablecoin RedCoin, distributed through its 3.3 million-user PayMe app, along with Citi's partnership with Coinbase and Circle's work with Volante on USDC settlement, point to infrastructure consolidation rather than open experimentation.

Mastercard Expands Agent Pay With New Agentic Trust and Intelligence Services
Mastercard announced an expansion of its Agent Pay agentic payments program with new trust and intelligence services that give financial institutions and merchants greater context for AI-initiated transactions. The services form the intelligence layer of Mastercard's Agent Pay Trust Framework, which combines identity, intent, controls, execution and intelligence to establish trust across agentic commerce. The first service, rolling out for testing in the U.S., is a probability score indicating the likelihood that a transaction was initiated by an AI agent, which Mastercard said it will strengthen over time with intelligence on behavior, merchant risk, transaction patterns, credential risk and consumer propensity. Mastercard is working with partners including Cloudflare on privacy-preserving environments for understanding AI-driven payment activity, and with Skyfire, a provider of Know Your Agent technology, to help financial institutions and merchants recognize trusted agents. The company cited a projection that one in 10 consumers will routinely use agents to make purchases by 2030, and Ann Johnson, executive vice president of Security Solutions at Mastercard, said the new agentic intelligence and risk insights give people the confidence to say yes however they choose to pay.

PayPal Integrates IPQualityScore Fraud Signals Into Merchant Workflows
PayPal Holdings has integrated IPQualityScore into platforms including Alloy, Shopify, and Stripe, feeding fraud intelligence and digital risk signals directly into PayPal transaction and account workflows for participating merchants. The expanded integration is expected to affect customer onboarding checks, security event handling, and fraud detection rules used across the PayPal ecosystem. PayPal runs a global payments platform connecting merchants and consumers and carries a US$46.1b market cap. The company's focus on value added services such as optimized debit routing and fraud protection is generating higher transaction margins, which is expected to continue. The move supports PayPal's shift from a pure payments processor toward a broader commerce platform selling merchants smarter risk, data, and fraud services, though folding IPQS into complex onboarding and fraud rules across a huge global network carries real operational risk amid analyst-flagged earnings pressure and rising competition.

Mastercard Declares Quarterly Dividend of 87 Cents Per Share
Mastercard's Board of Directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend of 87 cents per share. The dividend will be paid on November 9, 2026 to holders of record of the company's Class A common stock and Class B common stock as of October 9, 2026. The solution uses dynamic acceptance propensity scoring, interactive dashboards and enriched payment data to turn accounts payable data into actionable supplier insights, letting issuers prioritize suppliers, improve outreach and expand card acceptance. Mastercard estimates the addressable B2B payments opportunity at roughly $80 trillion, and Absa Group and Emirates NBD are among the first institutions offering the capability to corporate clients. For Mastercard, the larger opportunity lies in helping issuers convert existing accounts payable relationships into incremental card transactions, which could support higher switched volumes and strengthen its role in the corporate-payments ecosystem. Visa Extends Visa Direct Into U.S. iGaming Payouts Via AptPay Integration
Visa is extending the reach of Visa Direct into the U.S. iGaming payments market through a planned direct integration with AptPay. The addition of Visa Direct Alias, currently being piloted in the United States, could make payouts easier by letting users receive funds through identifiers such as phone numbers, email addresses or supported wallet handles. AptPay's single integration also helps gaming companies manage payment methods, routing, reconciliation and connectivity without building separate links to every network. The growth of regulated online gaming provides a sizable addressable market, with U.S. iGaming revenues reaching $10.74 billion in 2025, up 27.6% year over year, while sports-betting revenues increased 22.8% to $16.96 billion in 2025. The announcement does not provide revenue, fee, volume or earnings guidance for Visa or AptPay, though broader Visa Direct adoption could support incremental payment volumes and transaction-related revenues as iGaming expands.

Visa Deposits $405 Million Into U.S. Litigation Escrow, Trimming Class B Share Count
Visa Inc. disclosed in a September 23 regulatory filing that it authorized a $405 million deposit into its U.S. litigation escrow account on September 18, 2026. The escrow, established under the company's U.S. retrospective responsibility plan, shifts legacy U.S. litigation liabilities to Class B shareholders, primarily U.S. financial institutions, and funding it lowers the conversion rates of Class B-1, B-2, and B-3 shares into Class A stock. Class B-1 fell from 1.5445 to 1.5400, Class B-2 dropped from 1.5014 to 1.4924, and Class B-3 decreased from 1.4953 to 1.4773, trimming the combined as-converted Class B share count by roughly 1.104 million shares. Visa said the adjustment contracts its overall fully diluted Class A share count and carries the same earnings per share accretive impact as repurchasing Class A shares in the open market. The deposit comes as Visa reported $11.6 billion in net revenue, up 14% year-over-year, and $5.6 billion in GAAP net income for Q3 fiscal 2026, while also recording a $237 million litigation provision and $563 million in severance charges.

Circle CFO Jeremy Fox-Geen and Co-Founder P. Sean Neville Depart on Same Day
Circle Internet Group disclosed on September 25 that chief financial officer Jeremy Fox-Geen is stepping down after more than five years in the role, and a separate filing the same day revealed that co-founder and long-serving director P. Sean Neville had resigned from the board with immediate effect, taking it from eight members to seven. The shares fell 4.30% to close at $89.00 and slipped further after hours. Circle said neither departure arose from any disagreement over the company's operations, policies, or accounting practices, and Fox-Geen will stay in the job through December 2026 while a successor is found, with severance of about $1.05 million in cash over twelve months plus accelerated vesting on equity he already holds. Neville's resignation was described as part of an ongoing board refreshment process. Circle's revenue comes almost entirely from interest earned on reserves backing USDC, which ended the second quarter at more than $73 billion in circulation, leaving its income statement tied to Federal Reserve policy while the company digests an acquisition.
Jack Henry & Associates Adds ShredPay and Centreville Bank as Clients After FTSE All-World Removal
Jack Henry & Associates has added two new clients, with ShredPay joining its Fintech Integration Network and Centreville Bank adopting its core and digital platforms, shortly after the stock was removed from the FTSE All-World Index. The new client wins come as the company's shares have cooled in the short term, with a 30-day share price return down 12.88% and a year-to-date share price return lower by 17.13%, even though the 90-day share price return is up 9.47% and the 1-year total shareholder return is slightly positive at 0.44%. The most followed valuation narrative pegs Jack Henry at a fair value of $163.69 versus the recent $147.79 close, framing the current weakness as a discount, while a simple earnings multiple tells a different story: JKHY trades on a P/E of 20.6x versus a fair ratio of 13.1x, with peers closer to 15.2x and the wider US Diversified Financial industry around 17.2x. On guidance, Carsley guided 20 to 40 basis points of margin expansion for FY2027 against a year that delivered 92, describing the reset as prudent conservatism consistent with the company's starting-gate philosophy and noting the 2026 outperformance was partly attributable to one-time tailwinds. The narrative could be knocked off course if margin expansion stalls again or if Banno's outside-the-base push keeps slipping down management's priority list.

Remitly Global Tops Q2 2026 Guidance, Passes 10 Million Active Customers
Remitly Global reported revenue and adjusted EBITDA ahead of its own guidance for Q2 2026 and surpassed 10 million quarterly active customers for the first time, driven by record new customer additions. The company's narrative projects $3.0 billion in revenue and $248.2 million in earnings by 2029, with forecasts yielding a $32.33 fair value, a 51% upside to its current price. The most pessimistic analysts assumed earnings could slip to about US$264.4 million on roughly US$3.0 billion of revenue. The launch of the Remitly Global Card stands out as an extension of the relationship beyond a single remittance transaction into ongoing cross border financial usage, though it introduces new operational and regulatory complexity. Investors are also watching increased reliance on digital wallets and stablecoins as a factor that could shift both bullish and bearish views on credit risk and stablecoin exposure.

Mastercard Enables SoFiUSD Stablecoin Settlement Across $25b SoFi Card Program
Mastercard has switched on stablecoin settlement for SoFi Bank's debit and credit cards, using SoFiUSD across a reported $25b card program and tying blockchain-based assets directly into its existing global network. Mastercard's stock has a 90 day share price return of 13.75%, while the 30 day move is down 5.15%, and its total shareholder return stands at 45.96% over three years and 62.33% over five years. Against a last close of $567.65, the most followed narrative on Mastercard argues for a fair value of $750, a 24% undervalued view. On the other side of that narrative, Mastercard trades on 30.6x earnings, while the fair ratio sits at 21.5x, the US Diversified Financial industry at 17.3x, and direct peers around 48x.
Visa Partners With UPT to Deploy Currencycloud for Corporate Cross-Border Payments
Visa has partnered with UPT to deploy Currencycloud for corporate cross-border payments and virtual IBAN accounts. The collaboration gives corporate clients access to virtual EUR and GBP IBANs for simplified international collections, and UPT plans to use Currencycloud's platform to streamline cross-border payment flows for business customers across multiple markets. The move fits into a broader shift in Visa's business payments strategy, leaning into its value-added services and cross-border flows alongside Visa Direct to make the network more useful for corporate money movement. Visa operates a global payment network connecting consumers, merchants, financial institutions and governments, with a reported market value of about $674.4b. The key question left open is how far Visa can extend pricing power as more real-time account-to-account systems and alternative rails grow, with the next clear signal being how Visa reports Visa Direct and broader cross-border volumes in its upcoming fiscal 2027 results.

The West Coast-based IT company is reportedly considering an all-stock acquisition, while PayPal's board is seeking an all-cash deal. Reports also indicated that talks between PayPal and a consortium of Stripe and Advent International stalled over a 2 billion dollar breakup fee. The consortium had been considering paying PayPal up to 68 dollars per share in cash.
Mastercard Begins Stablecoin Settlement With SoFi Bank Card Program
Mastercard has begun settling SoFi Bank card transactions using SoFiUSD, putting a bank-issued stablecoin to work inside an operating card program. SoFi says the program is expected to handle more than $25 billion in annualized card volume, a figure that represents the size of the card program rather than a reported total for stablecoin transactions or new Mastercard revenue. Merchants can receive funds without holding tokens or building blockchain systems, which the companies say improves the arrangement's chances of fitting into everyday payments. Mastercard shares held flat at $565.21 at 11.38am ET on Friday, leaving the stock 17.49% below its $685 GF Value estimate. The company's opportunity lies in keeping its network central as the asset used for settlement changes, with proof to come from faster or cheaper settlement, wider adoption and eventually measurable revenue.

Trump and Johnson to Meet Tech CEOs on AI Safety as PayPal Rises on Takeover Talk
President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson plan to host leading technology executives at the White House on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for discussions on artificial intelligence safety and potential government oversight. The meeting follows rising concerns from experts about AI's destructive potential without proper guardrails, though Trump has dismissed such warnings as a "hoax" while emphasizing the need for U.S. firms to outpace China in the AI race. Separately, PayPal shares rose 1.2% on renewed acquisition speculation after traders cited a Betaville report indicating an unnamed West Coast technology company may be evaluating an all-stock takeover of the fintech firm, though the PayPal board is said to prefer an all-cash deal; the speculation follows the collapse of talks between a Stripe and Advent consortium, which had considered offering as much as $68 per share in cash but abandoned the pursuit last month after negotiations stalled over a $2 billion breakup fee. U.S. front-month Nymex natural gas futures dropped 5.5% to $3.115/MMBtu on Friday, reversing much of Thursday's 9% surge that followed a force majeure on TC Energy's Mountaineer Xpress pipeline in West Virginia, where the leak had cut firm transportation service by 1.8 Bcf/day, affecting roughly 1.5% of total U.S. Lower-48 gas supply. Short-squeeze risk remains elevated across major bitcoin-linked equities, according to S3 Partners Director of Research Leon Gross, with Strategy, Strive, and Coinbase each showing return correlations above 0.70 with bitcoin while short interest hovers near 10-13% of float for Strategy and Coinbase.

Block Joins x402 Foundation, Bringing Bitcoin Lightning to Automated Payments for AI
Block announced it is joining the x402 Foundation and adding support for Bitcoin Lightning to the payment protocol, expanding its push into payments for AI agents. Block said on Thursday that Lightning is particularly well suited to low-cost, high-volume transactions that agent-driven commerce will depend on. Steve Lee, head of Block's Spiral Bitcoin development initiative, said bringing Lightning to x402 is a clear and concrete step toward making Bitcoin everyday money for people and the agents acting on their behalf. x402 is an open payments standard that lets AI agents and web services autonomously pay for access to APIs, data, and digital services. Block joins Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and cryptocurrency companies including Coinbase and the Solana Foundation in backing the x402 Foundation, which launched in April under the Linux Foundation. The move builds on Block's participation in the Universal Commerce Protocol, an effort to enable AI-driven commerce for small businesses.

Visa Joins Mastercard and Ant International on AI-Agent Payment Standards
Visa teamed up with Mastercard and Ant International to build common standards for verifying AI purchasing agents, sending its shares up roughly 1.3% to $366.229 at 10.49am ET on Thursday morning. The company's Trusted Agent Protocol gives approved AI agents signed credentials that merchants can recognize, drawing a line between legitimate shopping assistants and hostile bots without forcing retailers or payment companies to rebuild the financial plumbing beneath every transaction. Visa's opportunity is to keep control of the valuable layers of authorization, tokenization and fraud protection even when software makes the buying decision. The stock remains 9.38% below its GF Value estimate of $404.14, leaving a visible valuation gap despite the day's advance. The standards strengthen Visa's position, but the payoff depends on AI agents generating new payment volume instead of merely replacing transactions consumers already make.

Mastercard Pushes Agentic Commerce as Banks Seek AI Shopping Safeguards
Mastercard is expanding into agentic commerce through Agent Connect even as major banks demand tougher safeguards for AI shopping agents, with fraud, scams and data-privacy risks moving into focus. The payments network's merchant tools can combine Anthropic's commerce-agent blueprint with Mastercard's payment intelligence and authorization controls, aiming to let AI shop for consumers while keeping Mastercard at the center of every transaction. Shares rose roughly 0.9% to $564.98 at 10.47am ET on Thursday morning. The opportunity carries sharp edges: shopping bots could drive more payment volume, but misunderstood instructions, disputed purchases and murky liability could also inflate network costs. At $564.98, Mastercard trades 17.49% below its GF Value of $684.73.

Visa and Klook Sign Southeast Asia Travel Partnership
Visa Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Klook to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia's experience-led travel market across six markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Under the agreement, the two companies will pursue joint creator programs, cardholder offers and in-destination brand presence, and Klook will join Visa Destinations, giving Visa cardholders access to travel experiences and related offers across the region. The partnership could expand Visa's role in travel beyond payments by connecting cardholders with trip inspiration, experiences and offers through Klook. Visa's 2026 Global Travel Intentions study found that 37% of Asia Pacific respondents plan trips around unique local experiences, compared with 29% globally, while Klook's Travel Pulse 2026 found that more than half of Asia Pacific travelers no longer start planning with a fixed destination and 23% begin with a specific activity. In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, Visa's cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe increased 12% year over year on a constant-dollar basis, while travel-related cross-border volume climbed 10%, and Klook's Kreator Program, with more than 30,000 creators across 88 markets, gives Visa another channel to engage travelers before and during their trips.

Global Payments Report Finds Consumers Expect AI to Handle 15% of Purchases Within Five Years
Global Payments Inc. said its latest Agentic Commerce Report found consumers now expect AI to make 15% of their purchases within five years, up from 9% a year ago. Among Americans, 45% have used or would consider using an AI shopping agent, 69% use AI to find better deals, and 63% use it to save time. Comfort with letting AI spend up to $50 jumped sharply for routine purchases, with cinema tickets rising from 32% to 82%, meal delivery from 30% to 78%, gift cards from 28% to 77%, and subscriptions from 27% to 69%, while 69% would let agents spend up to $100 on groceries and clothing. Adoption still faces limits, with 50% worried about payment security, 46% about privacy, and 42% about AI making the wrong purchase. Global Payments, which manages trillions of dollars in payment volume and billions of transactions across more than 175 countries, said agentic commerce could create a transaction channel across its merchant payments network, and peers Fiserv and PayPal are already building infrastructure for agent-led transactions. Shares of GPN have gained 8.6% year to date, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate implies an 11.6% rise in 2026 earnings followed by 17.9% growth next year.
GPN · Demand · Positive Its Agentic Commerce Report shows rising consumer expectation for AI-driven purchases, which could create a new transaction channel across its merchant payments network.
PayPal Partners With Meta to Power Purchases Through Muse AI Agent
PayPal Holdings is working with Meta Platforms to support purchases made through Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, at participating merchants worldwide. The arrangement brings PayPal into Meta's effort to turn Muse into a shopping tool that can handle transactions for users, letting customers move through parts of the buying process without completing each step themselves. The deal comes as online commerce platforms test ways to connect AI assistants with payment systems, and Shopify also said Tuesday that its merchants would be able to process purchases completed through Muse. Amazon, meanwhile, has blocked Muse from making purchases on its website as it seeks to restrict shopping activity carried out by outside automated services. Meta's push into AI-led commerce follows growing attention around Muse since its recent launch, with the assistant also rising to the top of Apple's U.S. App Store rankings earlier this month.

Stablecoin Issuers Keep Treasury Yield as GENIUS Act Bans Payouts
The GENIUS Act's Section 4(a)(11), enacted in July 2025, now explicitly bars permitted stablecoin issuers from paying holders any interest or yield tied to holding tokens, locking in a business model built on reserve income the issuers keep entirely. Tether, issuer of USDT, ranks as the 17th-largest holder of US Treasuries globally with approximately $141 billion in direct and indirect Treasury exposure as of Q1 2026, per its BDO Italia attestation, while Morgan Stanley projects stablecoin issuers could collectively hold $1.2 trillion in US Treasuries by 2030. Circle's FY2025 SEC 10-K showed $2.75 billion in total revenue, of which $2.64 billion, or 96%, came from reserve income, yet the company still posted a $70 million net loss as distribution costs reached $1.66 billion, including approximately $1.36 billion to Coinbase and a $152.1 million increase attributable to Binance. Tether, lacking a partner on Coinbase's scale, retains roughly 3.0 to 3.5 cents per dollar annually versus Circle's 0.8 to 1.0 cents, posting $13 billion in net profit in 2024 and $1.04 billion in Q1 2026 with excess reserves of $8.23 billion. In September 2026 Circle sold $100 million in equity to Binance, 1,237,011 Class A shares at $80.84 per share, a 5% discount, alongside a five-year agreement paying Binance a monthly incentive fee on USDC held through Circle's Modular Smart Contract Wallet infrastructure, as the January 18, 2027 enforcement cliff approaches with Tether holding roughly 60% market dominance and Circle at 24%.
CRCL · Capital · Negative Circle posted a $70 million net loss in FY2025 despite $2.75 billion revenue as distribution costs hit $1.66 billion.
CRCL · Regulation · Neutral GENIUS Act bars Circle from paying yield to USDC holders, locking in its reserve-income model but also constraining competitive tools.
USDT · Regulation · Positive GENIUS Act lets Tether keep all reserve yield, and its lack of a Coinbase-scale partner means it retains 3.0-3.5 cents per dollar versus Circle's 0.8-1.0 cents.
Binance · Demand · Positive Binance receives a $152.1 million increase in distribution payments and a five-year USDC incentive-fee agreement plus $100 million in Circle equity.
COIN · Demand · Positive Circle pays Coinbase roughly $1.36 billion in distribution costs and Binance deal uses Coinbase-scale partner economics, showing Coinbase's distribution role for USDC.
Mastercard Partners With Alchemy to Bring Virtual Cards to AI Shopping Agents
Mastercard is partnering with Alchemy to let developers integrate Mastercard-backed virtual cards directly into AI agents, positioning its network for the growth of agentic commerce. Alchemy's AgentCard will bring Mastercard payment credentials to AI agents through an integration with Mastercard Agent Pay, allowing developers to issue virtual cards with built-in spending limits and restrictions on what and where agents can purchase. The move is part of a broader industry push to build payment infrastructure for AI agents, alongside Visa's Intelligent Commerce and similar toolkits from PayPal, Stripe, and Coinbase. Adoption remains limited: a January Omnisend survey found only 8.29% of U.S. shoppers were fully comfortable with AI completing online purchases for them, while Visa's risk unit reported in 2025 that dark web references to AI Agent rose more than 450% over six months versus the prior six months. Citrini Research's February scenario, framed as a thought experiment rather than a forecast, warns that cost-optimizing AI agents could eventually bypass card rails, where interchange fees are commonly cited at 2% to 3%, and shift transactions to stablecoin rails costing a fraction of a cent each, cutting the network fees Mastercard earns on volume. Hedge fund interest was largely unchanged, with funds holding the stock rising slightly from 157 at the end of Q1 2026 to 158 at the end of Q2 2026, and short interest stood at just 0.87% of float as of August 31, 2026.
MA · Demand · Positive Mastercard partners with Alchemy to embed its virtual cards in AI agents, opening a new agentic-commerce channel for its network volume.
MA · Competition · Negative Citrini scenario warns cost-optimizing AI agents could bypass card rails for stablecoin rails, cutting the interchange fees Mastercard earns.

Visa Teams With Reap to Bring Stablecoin Cards to 100-Plus Markets
Visa has partnered with Reap to bring stablecoin-linked credit card programs to more than 100 markets, letting businesses fund card spending with stablecoins while merchants continue to accept Visa payments. Reap will handle card processing, compliance and day-to-day operations, and already settles its Asia-Pacific obligations with Visa directly in stablecoins. The two companies also plan to explore payments made by AI agents within limits set by users, though that work remains an exploration rather than a launched product. Visa shares edged up about 0.3% to $362.95 Wednesday morning on the news. The announcement offers no forecast for card spending or additional Visa revenue, leaving the test as whether the programs bring meaningful payment volume onto Visa's network.

Binance Invests $100 Million in Circle Amid DOJ Iran Sanctions Probe
Binance has bought a $100 million stake in Circle, the issuer of USDC, as part of a push to expand the stablecoin globally. The shares were purchased at a 5% discount and are locked up on a vesting schedule. Alongside the investment, Binance signed a new five-year commercial agreement that contractually encourages the exchange to promote USDC on its platform, a paid distribution deal aimed at helping USDC compete against Tether in markets where it has been less competitive. The development comes as Bloomberg News reports that Binance faces a Department of Justice probe over possible Iran sanctions violations. Scott Melker, discussing the story on The Daily Wolf, said he dismisses the sanctions reports, arguing that Binance is among the most heavily watched exchanges and would not knowingly facilitate transactions by sanctioned governments or entities.
