Record data-center awards and backlog drive Ameresco, but profit slips

  • Record $1.8B awards, data-center demand Ameresco won a record $1.8 billion of new projects in Q2, with $1.2 billion for on-site power at data centers. Total backlog rose 32% to $6.73 billion, giving visibility for years. This is the core reason investors see growing future revenue.

It is the main new fundamental driver of AMRC's outlook and price.

  • Q2 revenue beat, guidance raised Q2 revenue of $515 million beat expectations by about 12%, and Ameresco raised full-year earnings guidance to $1.15-$1.35 per share, above analyst consensus. The stock jumped nearly 30% on the news, showing how much better-than-feared results matter.

It explains the sharp positive price reaction and improved earnings outlook.

  • Profit and cash flow weaken Despite record awards, net income fell to $9.7 million from $12.9 million a year earlier, and the first half swung to an $8.6 million loss. Higher depreciation, interest costs, and a smaller tax benefit are squeezing the bottom line, a real counterweight to the growth story.

It is the main negative force and balances the bullish backlog news.

  • Potential inverter import restrictions Reports of possible US restrictions on foreign-made power inverters lifted Ameresco and other domestic renewable companies. If rules limit foreign suppliers, Ameresco could face less competition and benefit from a shift to domestic equipment, though the policy is not final.

It is a new regulatory catalyst that could support AMRC's competitive position.

Ameresco Posts Record $1.8 Billion in Q2 Awards as Profit and Cash Flow Slip

Ameresco announced second-quarter 2026 results on August 3, landing $1.8 billion in new project awards, the largest haul in its history, with $1.2 billion of that tied to data center power projects. Total backlog climbed 32% year over year to a record $6.73 billion, and awarded backlog in the Power Infrastructure business jumped 65% to $4.4 billion, giving management visibility into the next three to four years. Revenue rose 9% year over year to $515.5 million, gross margin expanded to 17.7%, and adjusted EBITDA climbed 12% to $62.8 million, while management raised full-year Non-GAAP EPS guidance to a range of $1.15 to $1.35 on a wider expected tax benefit tied to transferable tax credits. Cash rose to $138.3 million from $71.8 million at the end of 2025, and corporate leverage stood at 3.2 times EBITDA, below the 3.5 times covenant limit. But net income attributable to common shareholders fell to $9.7 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, from $12.9 million and $0.24 a year earlier, and for the first six months of 2026 the company posted a net loss attributable to common shareholders of $8.6 million, versus a $7.4 million profit a year earlier, which management blamed on higher depreciation and interest expense, a smaller tax benefit, and the drag from non-controlling interest tied to the Neogenyx transaction.

Ameresco Wins Two Texas Water-Metering Contracts Worth Over $5 Million

Ameresco announced two Advanced Metering Infrastructure contracts with Baytown and Shenandoah, Texas, representing more than $5 million in combined investment. The projects will modernize water metering infrastructure with near real-time usage data, hourly consumption visibility, faster leak detection, and integration with each city's utility billing platform. While not a direct data-center cooling contract, the work is relevant to AI infrastructure because water efficiency is becoming a practical constraint for large, heat-intensive facilities. Ameresco already serves data centers through energy infrastructure and efficiency work, and its water-management capabilities add another layer to that positioning.
