HIVE's AI cloud deals surge as funding and tax risks build
▲
Nvidia $350M AI cloud contract HIVE signed a five-year, $350M AI cloud deal with Nvidia, adding about $70M in yearly revenue and lifting total contracted AI revenue to roughly $180M. This is the clearest sign its pivot from Bitcoin mining to AI computing is working, and the stock jumped 14% on the news.
This is the biggest new contract and the main reason the stock moved, directly answering what is driving HIVE now.
▲
Fiscal Q1 revenue jumps 74% HIVE's quarterly revenue rose 73.5% to $79.1M, with Bitcoin mining up 77% and AI cloud revenue up 52%. Adjusted EBITDA was positive at $13.4M and cash stood at $208M, showing the core business is growing and generating cash despite a large accounting loss.
The earnings report is new and shows the underlying business strength that supports the stock, separate from one-time charges.
▼
Swedish tax dispute and GPU funding gap A Swedish VAT ruling led HIVE to book an $84.7M non-cash charge, turning the quarter into a $142.9M net loss. Analysts also flagged about $276M still needed to fund GPU purchases. These are real cash and dilution risks that could weigh on the stock.
This is the main counterweight to the positive AI news and a key uncertainty investors need to know about.
▲
Sector-wide AI infrastructure pivot Former Bitcoin miners like Hut 8, IREN and HIVE are signing huge long-term AI contracts, with HIVE's $350M Nvidia deal part of this trend. This shift gives HIVE access to stable, contracted revenue, but analysts warn dilution and execution risks remain across the sector.
It shows the broader industry force behind HIVE's move and gives context for why investors are re-rating these stocks.

HIVE's BUZZ HPC signs AI infrastructure deal with ProCogia
HIVE Digital Technologies subsidiary BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc. has entered a strategic partnership with Vancouver-based applied-AI and data engineering company ProCogia, the companies said Wednesday. Under the agreement, ProCogia will procure dedicated GPU capacity from BUZZ HPC's Canadian data centers and layer its applied-AI stack, including LLM hosting, bespoke model training, agentic systems and vertical AI products, on top of that infrastructure for enterprise and small- and medium-sized business clients in Canada, the United States and Europe. ProCogia is deploying dedicated compute on BUZZ HPC's infrastructure while becoming a preferred applied-AI services partner for BUZZ HPC's customers, with plans to co-sell into the U.S. and Europe. ProCogia will use the partnership as a cloud launchpad for its proprietary ZeroBoxx AI framework, and its vertical AI products, CallYeah, a voice-AI solution for healthcare providers, and PolyKode, a code-migration LLM for regulated environments, will run on BUZZ HPC capacity as anchor workloads. Aydin Kilic, CEO of HIVE Digital Technologies, said BUZZ HPC was built so that Canadian companies with real AI ambition would never have to choose between accelerated computing infrastructure and sovereignty over their data, while ProCogia Founder and CEO Meharpratap Singh said the partnership addresses what has historically been the biggest bottleneck for smaller SMB and mid-market clients.

HIVE Digital names Mark Volk SVP of Revenue as GPU cloud pipeline tops $1 billion
HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd has appointed Mark Volk as Senior Vice President of Revenue, part of an expansion of its artificial intelligence infrastructure strategy that Executive Chairman Frank Holmes said includes a potential GPU cloud pipeline worth more than $1 billion. Holmes told Proactive that Volk had worked with HIVE for nine months before taking the position full time and had already helped build that potential GPU cloud pipeline. He said Volk's experience would be important as HIVE scales its data centre operations and seeks to turn computing infrastructure into contracted revenue, pointing to the company's activities in Paraguay and its partnership with Bell Canada as examples of that scaling strategy. Holmes also said HIVE had broken the $1 million-a-day barrier and had maintained that level for the past couple of weeks, and he positioned artificial intelligence as the company's next growth engine alongside its established Bitcoin operations, which he described as HIVE's cash engine. Holmes said GPUs are substantially more expensive than Bitcoin-mining ASICs but can generate 30, 40 times more revenue per hour per chip, adding that every megawatt has a job with HIVE and that the company would move toward AI at locations where AI could earn a better return than Bitcoin.

HIVE Digital Reports 73% Revenue Surge and $350 Million HPC Deal
HIVE Digital Technologies reported fiscal Q1 2027 revenue of $79.1 million, up 73% year-over-year, and announced a new $350 million five-year HPC/AI contract with an investment-grade tenant. The company's HPC/AI business reached $180 million in contracted revenue, including the new deal, while adjusted EBITDA turned positive at $13.4 million, a $22 million improvement from the prior quarter. HIVE posted a GAAP net loss of $142.9 million, driven by an $84.7 million noncash Swedish VAT provision and $53.7 million in depreciation. Bitcoin mining revenue was $72.1 million, about 90% of total revenue, with production of approximately 1,004 Bitcoin equivalent during the quarter. Cash position strengthened to $208 million at quarter end, up from $23 million at March 31, following a $130 million zero-coupon exchangeable notes offering.
Former Bitcoin miners pivot to AI infrastructure with contracted backlogs
A growing number of former Bitcoin miners are repositioning themselves as AI and high-performance computing infrastructure providers, using their existing power assets and land holdings to compete for long-term, contracted revenue from hyperscalers and AI labs. Hut 8 disclosed a $26.6 billion contracted backlog alongside $7.5 billion in non-convertible, non-recourse debt financing, with projected average annual net operating income of $1.75 billion across 949 MW of contracted capacity. IREN Limited has secured over $2.8 billion in multi-year contracts with Microsoft and Nvidia, with 85% of 2026 annual recurring revenue already contracted as it targets a 5 GW capacity buildout by 2028. HIVE Digital Technologies announced a $350 million, five-year AI cloud services agreement through its BUZZ HPC unit, bringing total contracted AI annual recurring revenue above $100 million. Digi Power X is building toward a $140 million+ annualized contracted run rate by 2027, anchored by a $1.1 billion take-or-pay contract with Cerebras for 40 MW in Alabama, while Keel Infrastructure Corp controls 574 MW across four HPC-earmarked sites funded by $819 million in liquidity. Analysts are broadly constructive on the transition thesis, but consistently flag dilution risk, contract execution, and interest-rate sensitivity as the primary threats to current valuation multiples.
DigitalOcean Jumps on Cloudways Managed AI Agents Launch
DigitalOcean shares rose 2.9% in afternoon trading after its Cloudways unit launched Managed AI Agents, a new product line that lets customers deploy open-source agents OpenClaw and Hermes through the same managed-hosting dashboard used for websites and apps. The company cited more than 386,000 GitHub stars for OpenClaw and more than 228,000 for Hermes, suggesting the move could turn hosting open-source AI agents into another managed plan and be accretive to growth. The announcement followed positive sentiment in the broader AI cloud services sector, as peer HIVE Digital Technologies signed a five-year, $350 million cloud services agreement with an enterprise customer. DigitalOcean shares were trading at $135.24, up 4.1% from the previous close.
KBW keeps HIVE at neutral after earnings beat, flags $276 million GPU funding need
KBW maintained its Market Perform rating and $4.50 price target on HIVE after the company posted better-than-expected EBITDA and expanded contracted AI cloud revenue. Analyst Stephen Glagola said HIVE generated fiscal first-quarter 2027 revenue of $79.1 million, above KBW's $77.9 million estimate but below the $82.2 million consensus, while KBW-defined EBITDA was $15.2 million, topping the bank's $13.2 million estimate and the $11.7 million consensus. HIVE's AI cloud subsidiary has secured two multi-year reserved GPU contracts in British Columbia with combined annual recurring revenue of about $143 million, modestly above KBW's $135 million model. KBW estimated that HIVE has funded $46 million of approximately $357 million in combined GPU capex, leaving about $276 million remaining after an expected $35 million customer prepayment. HIVE also faces a potential cash demand in Sweden after recording an $84.7 million non-cash provision following an adverse appeals court ruling in a VAT dispute, and KBW wants more detail on when that liability could require payment and how it would be funded.
