Data Security & Cyber Resilience

Cybersecurity has just accepted a painful truth: no matter how well you defend, one day you'll get hit. So the question shifts from 'how do we keep the thief out?' to 'once they're in, will our data survive — and how fast can we get it back?' This is the story of protecting the data itself, plus the art of getting back on your feet after ransomware — the arena that pushed companies like Rubrik to IPO and turned the once-boring job of 'data backup' into a boardroom issue.

Why is Data Security & Cyber Resilience moving?

Q2 2026
▲2▼1

Cyber demand strong on breaches and AI, but spending risks emerge

  • Breach-driven demand surge Novo Nordisk's massive breach exposed over a terabyte of research and AI models, while Tata, Carnival and AssetMark also suffered major breaches, pushing organisations to spend more on security and resilience.

This point shows how high-profile breaches directly increased demand for data security and cyber resilience solutions.

  • Resilience spending confirmed Commvault's Azure integration and Rubrik's strong earnings confirmed durable spending on resilience tools, with 65% of organisations fearing a serious attack could threaten survival.

This point highlights concrete evidence that spending on cyber resilience tools remained strong during the period.

  • Accenture guidance cut signals spending risk Accenture cut guidance and saw shares plunge 18% on geopolitical and federal cost pressures, showing that security spending can be delayed when budgets tighten.

This point provides a counterweight by showing that demand is not immune to broader economic and geopolitical pressures.

  • AI governance gaps and vendor pressure AI governance gaps—69% of executives prioritising speed over security—created new spending needs, while Varonis' potential PE sale signalled pressure on standalone vendors.

This point captures both a new demand driver (AI governance) and a challenge for some vendors, showing mixed forces at play.

Breaches widen and AI-agent data controls arrive as resilience spending builds

  • Breach wave keeps exposing weak data protection Bitget raised its theft estimate to $387.5 million, ShinyHunters renewed its Oracle PeopleSoft attack hitting dozens of organizations, and Park24 and Secoma each leaked member records (up to 6.6 million and 570,000). These failures keep legal, recovery and liability costs high and show weak links persist.

Multiple fresh breaches are the main negative force on the theme this period.

  • Privacy liability reaches Big Tech by jury verdict A New Mexico jury found Meta misled users about how Facebook handled their personal data, a first-of-its-kind jury finding rather than a signed settlement. It raises the legal risk of data-handling promises for large platforms and could push more compliance and data-governance spending.

A new legal precedent adds a regulation-driven cost and demand driver for the theme.

  • AI-agent data controls become a paid product layer TrendAI extended its platform to NVIDIA's agent safety stack, adding data classification, file security and data-loss prevention for files AI agents read and write. Bedrock Data brought its agent data-loss prevention to NVIDIA OpenShell, enforcing data rules at runtime. This turns agent data governance into new recurring demand.

New products show AI agents pulling data-protection tools into enterprise budgets.

  • Recovery and government data deals deepen resilience demand NetApp expanded its Commvault integration for near-real-time threat detection and clean recovery in minutes, and Rank One Computing won an eight-year, $64.3 million Justice Department digital-evidence contract. Nvidia's record $150 billion buyback signals continued capital behind the AI buildout that expands the data attack surface.

Fresh recovery tooling, a federal data contract and AI capital all support resilience spending.

Q3 2026
▲3▼1

Attacks, rules and deals lift security demand, but spending pauses bite

  • Attacks shift to paralysing operations, driving resilience spending Cyberattacks increasingly aimed at shutting down operations, pushing companies to spend more on recovery tools, AI identity checks and resilience services. Big breaches at Thomson Reuters and Revolut showed the costly gaps.

This is the core demand driver for the quarter, explaining why spending stayed strong.

  • New AI, data and crypto rules add regulatory tailwind Tighter rules on AI, data, fraud and crypto across India, Thailand, China, Brazil, Japan and the US forced companies to spend on compliance, adding a steady demand boost for security products.

Regulation is a major new force driving spending in this period.

  • Major deals and strong earnings confirm durable demand Visa bought BioCatch and Rubrik partnered with Wipro, while Commvault and Rubrik posted strong earnings. These deals and results show that demand for security and resilience tools is lasting.

Deals and earnings are concrete evidence that demand is holding up.

  • Spending pauses and policy rollback create real risks IBM shares fell 25% as clients paused spending, and the US suspended CMMC Phase II, removing forced demand. Crypto hacks at Bitget and Liquid, plus privacy backlash and Proofpoint–Varonis consolidation, reshaped competition.

This is the main counterweight, showing that not all forces were positive.

Thales Launches CipherTrust Data Security Posture Management Platform

Thales announced CipherTrust Data Security Posture Management, which the company describes as the first purpose-built DSPM offering that lets organizations protect sensitive data directly through encryption, masking or tokenization natively within the platform. The unified as-a-service platform combines sensitive-data discovery and classification with posture, access, activity and behavioral context to prioritize material risks, and it provides discovery and risk visibility for both structured and unstructured data across cloud, on-premises and hybrid sources. Todd Moore, Vice President of Data Security Products at Thales, said organizations need to understand which sensitive data is truly at risk and take direct action to reduce it, adding that CipherTrust DSPM connects risks to protections such as encryption and tokenization rather than relying on permissions alone. The approach builds on more than 30 years of Thales expertise in data discovery, protection, key management, access control and activity analysis. Hiroji Sugito, Principal Data Security Engineer at Tokyo Electron Device, said the platform's ease of deployment and the accuracy of its data classification enable customers to quickly understand where their sensitive data is, who or what can access it, and how to protect it without slowing AI adoption.

Bedrock Data Extends Agent DLP to NVIDIA OpenShell for Data-Aware Agent Policy Enforcement

Bedrock Data announced it has extended Agent DLP, its runtime data loss prevention for AI agents, to NVIDIA OpenShell, the open source agent runtime that is part of the NVIDIA Open Safety Platform. The integration adds a policy evaluation layer in which Bedrock Data evaluates a request payload once OpenShell authorizes the request, checking it against an enterprise's data policies and returning the decision OpenShell enforces at runtime. Bedrock Data supplies the data context and the decision through OpenShell's Supervisor Middleware, drawing on its Metadata Lake enterprise knowledge graph, which classifies data in place across cloud, SaaS, AI and on-premises environments at petabyte scale. The company said the integration lets restrictions travel with data across tables, tools and handoffs between agents, so actions that permissions allow can still be stopped when the data involved may not go where it is headed. Bedrock Data Agent DLP for NVIDIA OpenShell is available today to Bedrock Data customers as an OpenShell supervisor middleware service, and teams can run it first in observe-only mode before turning on enforcement.

TrendAI Extends NVIDIA Agent Safety Platform With Threat Intelligence

TrendAI, the AI security business unit of Trend Micro Incorporated, announced support for the NVIDIA Agent Safety Platform, NVIDIA's full-stack infrastructure for running autonomous AI agents safely at enterprise scale. TrendAI Vision One extends NVIDIA's agent safeguards across the whole AI factory, covering agents, models, containers, storage and networks on one platform, pairing hardware-level detection on NVIDIA BlueField DPUs and network security with Zero Day Initiative threat intelligence. The platform's model protection uses inline inspection of prompts and responses to block prompt injection and jailbreaks and to redact sensitive data before it leaks, while harness and tool governance lets security teams control which tools and MCP servers agents can reach and inspect every tool call. Data and identity controls find and classify sensitive data feeding AI, stop agents from reaching data they shouldn't, extend file security and data loss prevention to files agents read and write, and strip excess privilege from agents and other non-human identities. Using NVIDIA BlueField DPU and DOCA telemetry, TrendAI Vision One detection stays trustworthy even if the host OS is compromised and correlates AI signals with endpoint, network and identity telemetry so a hijacked agent cannot move laterally unseen. Rachel Jin, Chief Platform and Business Officer and Head of TrendAI, said security cannot sit in one place and must cover the model, the harness, and every tool and data source an agent touches.

ShinyHunters Renews Attack on Oracle PeopleSoft, Bypassing Defenses, Google Says

Mandiant, the cybersecurity firm owned by Google, said on the 25th that the hacker group ShinyHunters has resumed a large-scale attack exploiting a vulnerability in Oracle's enterprise software PeopleSoft. The group reportedly circumvented defenses put in place after a summer attack. According to Mandiant's report, ShinyHunters exploited the PeopleSoft flaw between May 27 and June 9, with universities mainly among the victims. The hackers changed their methods in response to defense guidance published after the May-June attacks, and although some defenses were put in place by introducing web application firewall rules, they targeted organizations that had not applied the update Oracle provided to fix the vulnerability. The latest attack spanned a wide range of sectors, including higher education, technology, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and government, affecting dozens of systems worldwide, though the names of the affected organizations were not disclosed. ShinyHunters has claimed involvement in multiple large-scale data leaks, and days before the report was published, it stated that it had stolen data belonging to U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation employees.

Meta Loses New Mexico Jury Verdict Over Facebook Data Practices

A Santa Fe jury found on September 25 that Meta Platforms misled New Mexico residents about how Facebook handled their personal information, handing the state's attorney general a verdict in a case filed in 2021 and five years in the making. The state argued not that data leaked but that Meta described its privacy practices one way to users while permitting something else behind the interface, and the jury agreed after a two-week trial. Meta shares fell 3.33% to close at $751.66, a modest move against a business that turned over about $228 billion in the past year at a profit margin close to 30%. The verdict differs from Meta's earlier $17 billion settlement over claims involving teenage users in the one respect that matters to other states: a jury, not a company signature, made the finding. Damages have not been set, and the case traces back to Cambridge Analytica, whose data-harvesting revelations preceded the suit by three years.

Bitget Raises Crypto Theft Estimate to $387.5M as Stolen XRP Moves

Bitget said about $387.5 million in cryptocurrency was transferred to attacker-controlled addresses during a Sept. 24 security breach, raising its estimate from an initial $351.6 million as the exchange works to trace and recover the assets. The higher figure reflects a more complete accounting that includes assets on the Zcash and TRON networks omitted from the original estimate, and does not represent additional unauthorized transfers. XRP accounted for one of the largest portions of the theft, with public blockchain records showing nearly 103 million XRP transferred from Bitget-linked wallets, and about 54 million XRP had left the five original holding wallets by 12:41 UTC Saturday, leaving roughly 49 million XRP across those accounts, down from about 70 million about eight hours earlier. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said preliminary IP and blockchain analysis pointed to possible involvement by North Korean hackers, though the attribution has not been independently confirmed, and Mandiant and blockchain security firm SlowMist are assisting with the investigation. Bitget has launched a bounty program offering 5% of affected funds that participants directly help freeze and 5% of funds they help recover, and said its User Protection Fund will cover the financial impact of the breach while customer account balances remain unaffected.

Cloudflare Launches AI Crawler Controls With Disallow AI Training Setting

Cloudflare, Inc. launched new AI crawling controls in September 2026, including a "Disallow AI Training" setting and an Accountable designation for AI crawlers, giving website owners granular control over search, AI training, and AI agents while keeping them visible in search results. A key innovation is Cloudflare's Bot Preference Sync and accountability criteria, which standardize how websites express AI access preferences across major crawlers like Apple, Google, and Microsoft, aligning with emerging open standards work at the IETF. The company's narrative projects $5.4 billion revenue and $580.9 million earnings by 2029, requiring 28.7% yearly revenue growth and a $787.2 million earnings increase from -$206.3 million today. That forecast yields a $333.55 fair value, a 7% downside to its current price. Some of the lowest ranked analysts were already expecting revenue of about US$5,000,000,000 by 2029 but still saw margin and regulation risks as severe.

Bitget Hacked for $351.6 Million, Largest of 2026

Cryptocurrency trading platform Bitget suffered a hot wallet leak of $351.6 million in a major hack. Arkham Intelligence was the first to raise the alarm after detecting massive withdrawals of AVAX, BNB, ETH and stablecoins from the wallet, which were later swapped into ETH. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the incident was confined to the hot wallet only, while assets in the cold wallet were unaffected. The attackers compromised critical backend systems, forged transaction records, and triggered withdrawal approvals without needing private keys. Bitget has temporarily suspended withdrawals while it conducts a security review, but deposits and trading continue as normal and user balances remain safe. The platform has flagged the receiving wallet addresses and is working with law enforcement and blockchain security firms to trace and recover the stolen funds, with a full report expected within 24 hours. Chen confirmed that Bitget will fully compensate the losses through its user protection fund, which is worth more than $464 million. The attack is the largest of 2026 in terms of funds lost, bigger than the $320 million Liquid Network attack and the $292 million KeloDAO hack, making it the year's largest single point of failure. Cybersecurity experts at Certik noted that this year attackers have shifted toward compromising infrastructure, stealing from hot wallets and gaining access to private keys, rather than exploiting smart contract vulnerabilities.

Coinbase to Build Quantum-Resistant Crypto Custody System

Crypto exchange Coinbase revealed by September 22 that it is developing a crypto custody system capable of supporting any post-quantum signature scheme blockchains may adopt in the future, in preparation for the risk of quantum computers cracking encryption. Yehuda Lindell, the company's head of cryptography, explained this in a video interview with the Mara Foundation. The company is upgrading its current custody infrastructure, which uses multi-party computation, so that it can withstand attacks by quantum computers, and is also considering an alternative approach using specialized devices called hardware security modules in case a signature scheme is adopted that multi-party computation cannot handle. According to the Mara Foundation, the company protects roughly 250 billion dollars' worth of digital assets centered on this system. On July 23, Coinbase explained on its official blog that its current key management system, CoreKMS, protects about 99.9 percent of its custodied assets, and that it is also developing a quantum-resistant version, PQ-CoreKMS, with plans to build an automated infrastructure within one year that can securely sign while distributing keys across multiple locations. Over the following two to three years, it aims to develop multi-party computation that does not require generating a complete private key even for quantum-resistant signatures.

ShinyHunters Claims It Breached FBI Systems, Leaking Staff and Job Applicant Data

The cyber extortion hacking group ShinyHunters claimed on Tuesday, September 22, that it had breached the systems of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI, and stolen a massive trove of data on both former and current personnel as well as job applicants. The FBI acknowledged it was aware of claims of an unauthorized intrusion affecting the FBIjobs.gov recruitment website and said it was investigating urgently. ShinyHunters said in an online chat with Reuters that the attack was retaliation for a public warning issued by the FBI in May 2026 that exposed the group's attack methods and urged victims not to pay ransoms. The hacking group claimed it stole data on nearly all FBI special agents along with people who had previously submitted job applications, and released a sample of records on about 5,000 personnel, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, assigned duties, and the names of family members of some agents. A preliminary Reuters review comparing the data against credit bureau databases and leak histories recorded by dark web cyber threat intelligence firm District 4 Labs found at least 10 matching records, including data on Kash Patel, the FBI director, and sources close to the matter said the job details in the dataset matched reality in some cases.

Cyera Raises $400 Million Goldman Sachs Extension to Series G

Cyera announced a $400 million extension from Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives to its Series G round, which was led by Evolution Equity, to accelerate its mission of building a unified platform that governs access for every human, machine, and AI agent across the enterprise. The new investment will continue to support new capabilities across Cyera's AI Security product roadmap, fuel deeper expansion in the federal market, and drive continued international growth across EMEA and APAC. Cyera has secured the data layer since day one and this year extended that control to agents acting on it, with Agent Guardian and Cyera Endpoint giving enterprises visibility and accountability across AI agents, tracking tool calls, database queries, and actions from the cloud to endpoint devices where local agents such as Claude Code and Cursor increasingly perform sensitive work. The acquisition of Oasis Security brings that visibility together with non-human identity management in a single system, connecting where sensitive data lives with who or what can actually reach it. Cyera, valued at over $12 billion, is backed by investors including Accel, Blackstone, Cyberstarts, Georgian, Lightspeed, and Sequoia, and its customers include Paramount, Chipotle, and Valvoline.

Craneware Shares Fall 24% as Cyberattack and 340B Woes Force FY27 Reset

Craneware shares fell roughly 24% after the Edinburgh-based healthcare software group warned that revenue for the year ending June 2027 is now expected to be around $185 million, roughly in line with its annual recurring revenue base. The reset follows a broadly flat 2026 financial year, in which revenue came in at $206 million versus $205.7 million previously, adjusted EBITDA rose 3% to $67.1 million, the adjusted EBITDA margin improved to 33%, and statutory pretax profit rose 7% to $25.8 million. Annual recurring revenue barely moved at $185 million, while net revenue retention dropped to 100% from 107%. Management blamed growing regulatory uncertainty and increasingly complex requirements from pharmaceutical manufacturers in the US 340B drug-pricing market, which slowed the conversion of identified savings opportunities into transaction revenue. A July cyberattack, disclosed after the financial year ended, added a second blow: hackers gained unauthorized access to part of Craneware's data environment and extracted data, and although core operations continued without disruption and specialists confirmed systems are secure, the company is still determining what data was affected and notifying customers and regulators. Craneware finished the year with $54.8 million of cash and $156 million of undrawn borrowing facilities, and said it has adopted a more cautious planning basis for the next three years, including a comprehensive cost review, with FY27 now effectively a transition year.

NCSA Accelerates Cyber Resilience Push to Counter AI and Quantum Threats, Targets Quantum-Ready by 2030

The National Cyber Security Agency, or NCSA, has unveiled its direction for driving Thailand's cybersecurity, moving to clear out technology debt and elevate organisations toward Cyber Resilience in order to counter threats in the AI era, while setting a goal of bringing government agencies and critical information infrastructure, or CII, to quantum technology readiness, or Quantum-Ready, by 2030. Air Vice Marshal Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary-General of the NCSA, said at an open talk stage hosted by OPEN-TEC, a technology knowledge hub under TCC Technology Group, that over the past 20 years IT systems were adopted rapidly without enough emphasis on security, resulting in Technology Debt, or accumulated vulnerabilities in legacy systems. The NCSA therefore proposed guidelines for raising cybersecurity through key principles, stressing that security must begin on day one of AI development, covering software and data use, model training, and post-deployment operations, alongside building Cyber Resilience that shifts from a prevention-only mindset to the ability to withstand, detect, respond to, and recover critical infrastructure systems such as energy, public health, transport, and financial services, as well as the Zero Trust principle, the Least Privilege principle, and public-private partnership. In addition, the NCSA has begun laying out guidelines to survey Cryptographic Libraries, upgrade Web Servers to support the TLS 1.3 standard, and plan a transition to quantum-resistant encryption systems, with the goal of bringing the public sector and key agencies to Quantum-Ready status by 2030. It is also organising the Thailand Cyber Top Talent activity to address the shortage of cybersecurity personnel and to exchange threat intelligence for early warning.

Commvault Enables FedRAMP High Cloud for Federal Agencies

Commvault Systems has enabled its managed service provider partners to deliver FedRAMP High Authorized Commvault Cloud for Government services to U.S. federal agencies and defense contractors, broadening the company's public sector reach. The move lands on a stock with a 7 day share price return of 10.29% and a 90 day share price gain of 11.67%, though its 1 year total shareholder return is down 23.35% while the 3 year total shareholder return is up 111.68%. The most followed valuation narrative puts fair value at $161.15 against a last close of $145.21, implying roughly 10% upside, and rests on analyst expectations of about 10.6% annual revenue growth, profit margins rising toward 9.8%, and an 8.85% discount rate. Varonis Systems Launches Data Lifecycle Management Capability

Varonis Systems, Inc. launched Varonis Data Lifecycle Management, a new capability that automatically identifies and remediates redundant, obsolete, and trivial data across enterprise environments using its existing Data Security Platform. The launch ties data cleanup directly to sensitivity, access, and activity context, aiming to reduce storage waste, improve AI output quality, and help organizations address compliance exposures from scattered sensitive information. The DLM tool stacks on top of Varonis Atlas, the AI security platform that went generally available in March 2026, which targets discovery, posture management, and runtime protection for AI workloads. Together, Atlas and DLM broaden Varonis' role from guarding unstructured data to governing how that data is stored, used, cleaned up, and exposed across Snowflake, Claude, Cursor, and other cloud and AI partnerships. Varonis Systems' narrative projects $1.1 billion revenue and $120.7 million earnings by 2029, yielding a $50.68 fair value, an 8% upside to its current price, while the most pessimistic analysts were already modeling about US$1.0 billion of 2029 revenue.

Palantir and Nvidia Restrict Anthropic AI Over Data Retention

Palantir and Nvidia have reportedly tightened restrictions around Anthropic's advanced AI models over data-retention concerns, with Palantir demanding irrevocable zero-data-retention guarantees before making the models available through its software and Nvidia limiting Claude to less-sensitive internal work. Palantir's September 10 sovereign-AI push with Nvidia uses Nvidia Nemotron open models and customer-controlled infrastructure, while Anthropic said on September 1 it would roll out Enterprise Frontier Safeguards later this fall, storing data in customer-controlled cloud infrastructure with zero-data-retention protections. Microsoft's Sovereign Private Cloud can run large AI models in fully disconnected, customer-controlled environments, a proposition it expanded with Mistral on July 21, though Microsoft also offers Anthropic models across Copilot and Foundry and says Anthropic models used in its online services are excluded from some in-country processing commitments and unavailable in certain sovereign-cloud environments. Palantir's second-quarter U.S. commercial revenue rose 149%, and Insider Monkey tracked 86 hedge funds long PLTR in the second quarter of 2026, down from 96 in the first quarter, while 273 hedge funds held reportable MSFT longs in the second quarter, down from 282. Short positioning is more pointed in Palantir, with 65.13 million shares sold short as of August 31, 3.00% of float, and 2.2 days to cover.

Finance Ministry and Digital Economy Ministry Set Up 4 National Central Systems to Block Fraudsters' Money in Real Time

The Ministry of Finance has joined hands with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to prepare four national central systems to link data on suspicious transactions between agencies, so that all sectors see the same set of risk data, and to speed up the tracing and freezing of money trails before funds are withdrawn, converted into digital assets or gold, or transferred out of the country. Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, in his capacity as chairman of the subcommittee on linking financial data to enhance the monitoring and investigation of suspicious financial transactions, disclosed together with Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, that the subcommittee approved guidelines to upgrade the prevention and suppression of suspicious transactions in two areas: raising KYC, CDD and EDD standards to be on par with the world's leading financial centres, and drawing up a National Anti-Fraud Master Plan, whose core structure comprises four national central systems. These are the Data Sharing with Consent system, which exchanges risk data under consent; the Anonymous Financial Data Bureau, a centre for anonymous financial transaction data; the Case Management system, a national incident-reporting management system based on the principle of report once, one route; and the Financial Investigation and Account Action system for linking data and freezing money trails. The subcommittee has assigned the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, together with relevant agencies, to design the details of the data structure, operating systems, connection guidelines, responsible parties, as well as the rules and data standards for all four systems, to be completed within 30 days before being submitted to the subcommittee for further consideration.

China warns AI poses security risks and could be used to whip up attacks on infrastructure

Chen Yixin, China's Minister of State Security, warned that the rapid advance of artificial intelligence could threaten China's political stability and critical infrastructure. In an article published on Sunday, September 13, in the magazine China Cyberspace, he said that misuse of AI by hostile forces could directly threaten China's political security, institutional security and ideological security. He also warned that AI is growing more capable of finding system vulnerabilities and of creating malware or software to exploit them. The Chinese government is also concerned that hostile forces could use AI for public opinion and perception warfare, through AI-generated text and images, social media bots and deepfakes, to create political rumours, spread harmful information and stir up social division. At the same time, AI-powered web crawlers, data mining systems and profiling systems could boost the ability of foreign intelligence services to gather sensitive data, including government information, trade secrets and personal data. Countries with an AI advantage could invoke national security grounds to impose technology controls, monopolise industry standards and build closed ecosystems. The warning comes as executives at leading US technology companies call for more cautious AI development. Dario Amodei, co-founder of Anthropic, said in a blog post on Saturday, September 12, that AI capabilities are advancing faster than risk safeguards, and proposed that companies in the United States and other democracies coordinate their efforts. Chen's article, however, did not mention calls by Anthropic or OpenAI to slow the development of cutting-edge AI models, and there is no sign that the two sides' public statements were coordinated. Chen framed AI risks in terms of political control, technological sovereignty, foreign threats and strategic competition.

Boston Scientific Warns Cyberattack Will Break 2026 Guidance

Boston Scientific Corporation disclosed that an August 25 cyberattack disrupted manufacturing and shipping, making it unlikely to meet its previously issued third-quarter and full-year 2026 guidance for net sales and adjusted earnings per share. The company said operations have since resumed, but the incident is still expected to weigh on third-quarter and full-year results. The disruption did not stem from a product-quality problem; the lost sales were orders that could not ship, and distribution is already back online. Farapulse, Boston Scientific's pulsed-field-ablation system, still commands a major share of the US atrial-fibrillation market, though the company had already projected flat global electrophysiology growth for the second half of 2026 after lowering its market-share assumptions. Hedge fund holdings in BSX slipped to 99 in the second quarter of 2026 from 106 in the prior quarter, while short interest remains low at 1.9% of the float.

Japan records 123 ransomware cases in first half, a record high, with SMEs the main target

Japan's National Police Agency (NPA) said on September 10 that a total of 123 ransomware attacks were reported in Japan in the first half of this year, the highest half-year figure since record-keeping began in 2020. Of these, 79 targeted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), 31 hit large companies, and 13 targeted other types of organizations. The NPA said more than half of all cases took over a month to recover systems, and 9 cases brought all business operations to a halt. Meanwhile, the number of detected suspicious accesses, often preparations for cyberattacks, rose by more than 4,000 per day per IP address compared with the same period a year earlier, reflecting the growing severity of cyber threats. The NPA has compiled half-year ransomware statistics since the second half of 2020. Ransomware is malware in which attackers demand a ransom in exchange for restoring access to a company's data, which has been encrypted and rendered unusable.

Commvault Unveils Active Directory Pre Recover for Rapid Identity Recovery

Commvault has introduced Active Directory Pre Recover, a solution that reduces the time to cleanly recover Active Directory from hours to minutes by creating a clean standby copy in an isolated Cleanroom environment. The solution, part of Commvault's Identity Resilience portfolio, uses existing technologies including Cleanroom and Threat Scan to ensure the standby copy is free of malicious content. Organizations can fail over to this clean copy during a cyber incident, maintaining access to critical systems without waiting for a full forest recovery. Commvault's Chief Products Officer, Rajiv Kottomtharayil, highlighted that identity is foundational to enterprise operations, and this innovation extends recovery progress toward near-real-time availability. Active Directory Pre Recover will be available for early access in the coming months, included at no extra cost for all enterprise AD customers, with a lite version of Cleanroom, and will be offered globally through Commvault's partner ecosystem.
