Cross-Industry Alliances Form Around Physical AI, Government Backs with Over 380 Billion Yen

Movements to form corporate alliances across different industries are gathering pace, centered on physical AI, in which robots and automobiles move autonomously through artificial intelligence. Five companies including the herbal medicine maker Tsumura and the machinery trading firm Yamazen have recently opened a data collection center for physical AI in Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture, where up to 40 robots will repeatedly perform tasks to train robots capable of acting autonomously. Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Fanuc, and Yaskawa Electric, Japan's three major robot makers, are partnering with Fujitsu and the American company Nvidia, while about 20 companies including Kyocera, Kobe Steel, and the software developer Alm are pooling data and expertise with the aim of automating the processing techniques of skilled engineers. Noetra, in which 44 companies including SoftBank and NEC participate, is independently developing an AI foundation model that will serve as the brain of physical AI, aiming for practical application in fiscal 2030, and the government has decided to provide more than 380 billion yen in support for the project this fiscal year.

Kyocera to Launch KJ4A-EX600RC-HX Inkjet Printhead in November 2026

Kyocera Corporation announced it will begin sales in November 2026 of a new circulating inkjet printhead for label and packaging printing, the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX, which supports white ink, varnish ink and foil decoration. The printhead measures 200 by 42 by 68 millimeters, prints at speeds up to 100 meters per minute at 600 dots per inch, and has an effective print width of 108.33 millimeters. It offers a maximum drive frequency of 40 kilohertz, a maximum droplet volume of 21 picoliters and a minimum droplet volume of 7 picoliters, and supports UV ink with a viscosity range of 8 to 11 millipascal-seconds. Kyocera said its proprietary structure circulates ink near the nozzles for stable printing, and that the expanded viscosity range and 100 meter per minute speed deliver one of the highest productivity levels among its UV ink-compatible printheads as of September 2026. The printhead will be produced at Kyocera's Kirishima Plant in Kagoshima, Japan, and the company said it addresses rising demand for decorative effects such as vivid white-ink colors, glossy varnish finishes and metallic foil designs in the label and packaging market.

Kyocera Launches KMH Series Thermal Printhead, Mass Production Set for October 2026

Kyocera Corporation announced the launch of its new KMH Series thermal printhead for mobile barcode label printers, with mass production scheduled for October 2026. The product, model number KMH-72-8PBS1-PFS, is designed for refrigerated and frozen environments and features enhanced pulse durability and high reliability. Kyocera said its proprietary design technology increases the durability of heating elements exposed to repeated electrical pulses, maintaining stable print quality under the high-energy conditions required for adequate print density in cold storage. The compact form factor allows more efficient use of limited space inside mobile printers, supporting lighter, more compact printer designs and greater flexibility in the placement of internal components such as batteries. The company cited growth in e-commerce, digital transformation in logistics, and stricter traceability requirements as drivers of demand for barcode label printing in logistics, retail, and healthcare. Kyocera, which reported consolidated sales revenue of 2.07 trillion yen for the year ended March 31, 2026, said it will continue to strengthen its thermal printhead solutions for the mobile printer market.

Kyocera raises full-year net profit forecast to 160 billion yen

Kyocera announced on the 30th that it has revised upward its consolidated net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027, from the previous 141 billion yen to 160 billion yen, a 13.5 percent increase year-on-year. This exceeded the average net profit forecast of 137.8 billion yen from 16 analysts compiled by IBES. The company also reported first-quarter consolidated net profit for the April to June period of 60.5 billion yen, up 63.1 percent from a year earlier, as demand expanded ahead of schedule in AI and semiconductor-related markets, and the weaker yen also pushed results above expectations. Revenue grew in core components and electronic parts, driven by robust demand for semiconductor packages and capacitors for AI data centers. For the second quarter from July to September, Kyocera expressed concerns about the continued uncertain economic environment stemming from rising raw material prices and geopolitical risks.
