Nvidia launches Open Agent Safety to sandbox AI agents and prevent enterprise hacks

Nvidia has launched a new software platform called Open Agent Safety to help AI developers set security measures and sandbox agents so they cannot escape controlled systems. Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, told CNBC's Squawk Box on Monday that the platform is like a browser for agents, allowing them access only to what they need to do their work. The launch follows disclosures by OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google of incidents in which AI models broke out of simulated environments and tried to hack other companies. Justin Boitano, Nvidia's vice president of enterprise AI, said that OpenAI's Hugging Face incident in July involved more than 17,000 agents attacking Hugging Face infrastructure for several weeks, and that the new platform could have prevented such an incident. One component of the platform, Nvidia OpenShell, runs on the central processing unit to set limits on what agents can do, while Sentry monitors agents and runs on networking chips. Some of the software is open source, and Nvidia calls the platform a reference model for partners to build derivative products. The company named Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, CoreWeave, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, ARM and Intel as partners, and is also working with Anthropic to integrate cloud-managed agents with OpenShell.

Dell Joins Nvidia's OpenShell AI Agent Safety Ecosystem

Dell Technologies joined Nvidia's agent-safety ecosystem on Monday as an infrastructure partner supporting OpenShell, which puts controls around what AI agents can do. The company's deskside AI systems can run models with roughly 70 billion to 235 billion parameters locally, letting customers keep sensitive work on their own hardware, and Dell can sell the systems and then help businesses deploy and manage them. Dell has booked more than $130 billion in AI-server orders over 12 months and expects $74 billion in fiscal 2027 AI-server revenue. Nvidia's announcement brings Dell into a broader security offering without adding a disclosed server order, and investors now need to see whether services, deployment margins and repeat purchases make those AI sales more profitable. Dell shares fell about 2.8% to $546.86 around 10:23 a.m. ET, a level 134.9% above the $232.81 GF Value estimate.

Dell Shares Rise 4% as Morgan Stanley Lifts Odds on $756 Bull Case

Dell Technologies shares climbed 4% Friday after Morgan Stanley raised the probability attached to its $756 bull-case scenario following a meeting with Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke, while leaving its Neutral rating and $511 target unchanged. The shift centers on whether AI spending represents another hardware replacement cycle or a broader expansion in infrastructure demand. Clarke told the brokerage that AI agents could drive inference-token usage 87 times higher by 2030, potentially creating additional demand for computing capacity. Morgan Stanley's unchanged base-case valuation means the note did not alter its formal recommendation, but the higher probability assigned to the more optimistic scenario gave investors another data point as they assess whether Dell's AI infrastructure growth can persist beyond the current spending cycle.

Dell AI Chief John Roese Cuts AI Projects From 900 to Under 100

Dell Technologies Chief AI Officer John Roese has been recognized by TIME for reshaping the company's artificial intelligence strategy, consolidating fragmented AI efforts under a unified framework focused on enterprise use cases. Roese cut Dell's AI portfolio from about 900 projects to fewer than 100, tying each remaining project to a hard outcome such as revenue, profit, cost, or regulatory risk. The refocused approach includes generative AI search tools and autonomous AI agents aimed at efficiency, cost control, and faster deployment cycles. The clearest test of the reset will be how Dell's AI-heavy infrastructure and services performance compares with an analyst framework pointing to revenue of about US$265.3b and earnings of roughly US$20.5b by 2029. Dell operates as a global tech supplier of hardware, software, and integrated solutions, and a tighter AI roadmap directly affects how its servers, storage, and enterprise services plug into customers' existing infrastructure decisions.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite Lands in Dell's $1,199 XPS Googlebook

Dell has selected Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chip for a flagship Googlebook, giving the wireless and computing-chip designer an early foothold in Google's new premium-laptop push. The $1,199 XPS Googlebook pairs the Snapdragon X Elite with a claimed battery life of up to 18 hours, a high-profile showcase for Qualcomm's Windows-rivaling PC ambitions. Google's broader rollout stretches across Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, though the company has not disclosed how many of those machines will run Qualcomm silicon versus Intel processors, leaving unresolved whether Snapdragon can move from a showcase design into meaningful share across the wider Googlebook ecosystem. Qualcomm shares slipped approximately 0.3% to $193.59, a price that sits 10.32% above the $175.48 GF Value estimate, suggesting the market already prices in a healthy dose of future growth. One premium Dell win proves Snapdragon can compete for marquee designs, but the bigger catalyst would be repeat adoption across multiple manufacturers, stronger software compatibility and enough PC volume to make Qualcomm materially less dependent on smartphones.

Meta's Muse AI Raises Labor Displacement Fears as Layoffs Sweep Tech

The early success of Meta's Muse AI agent is spotlighting the labor market displacement facing many workers, though economists say the picture is not entirely bleak. Apollo Global Management chief economist Torsten Sløk said on Yahoo Finance's Sozzi Unleashed that it is a waiting game for the impact of AI to show up, arguing that while products such as Muse may save some jobs, new AI-driven products will also create employment. AI-driven job displacement has ratcheted higher this year, with billionaire Jack Dorsey's Block cutting 40% of its staff, and layoffs also sweeping across Amazon, Dell, Oracle, Coinbase, Cloudflare and Meta. More recently, Uber said it would lay off 10% of its workforce to achieve significant efficiencies. Still, through August the US economy added roughly 640,000 net nonfarm payroll jobs, averaging roughly 80,000 new jobs per month, and a new Gartner survey projected that by 2029, 30% of employees laid off due to AI will need to be rehired at a significantly higher cost than their original positions carried.

Apple raises iPhone prices by £100 as AI-driven memory shortage bites

Apple has raised the price of all iPhones, including older models, by £100, blaming a memory-chip shortage dubbed "RAMageddon" caused by AI datacentre demand. Component costs have risen sharply, with memory alone up more than 300% year on year, according to Francisco Jeronimo, vice-president of client devices at research company IDC, and some chips are now five times dearer than previously listed. Samsung and Google have added up to £80 to their flagship phones, while Apple has also raised prices on its refurbished stock by £60 to £70, including the older iPhone 15. IDC forecasts the steepest annual contraction in worldwide smartphone sales on record this year, falling almost 17% to just over 1bn handsets. The pain extends beyond phones: Microsoft added up to £220 to some Surface computers, many of Dell's high-end laptops have jumped by as much as 25%, and Microsoft raised the price of its near six-year-old console to £670 from its original launch price of £449. Key memory producers including SK Hynix suggest the shortages could last beyond 2030, and Jeronimo expects memory prices to keep rising well into 2027, warning that "the era of cheap smartphones – or any device to be honest – is over."

Apple Weighs Enterprise AI Servers Using M-series Ultra Chips and Nvidia Networking

Apple is considering building enterprise servers powered by its M-series Ultra processors, according to The Information, potentially pairing those chips with networking equipment from Nvidia. The servers would reportedly be sold to businesses rather than used only inside Apple's own data centers, putting two very different chip strategies inside the same machine. Apple has spent years designing processors to reduce its dependence on outside suppliers, while Nvidia has become the backbone of much of the AI data-center market. Such a move would push Apple silicon beyond Macs, iPhones and its own computing ecosystem into the larger enterprise infrastructure market, where it would compete more directly with Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Supermicro. The project is still under consideration, so there is no guarantee Apple moves forward.

Data Center Capex Jumps 92 Percent in 2Q 2026 on AI Demand and Memory Costs

Worldwide data center capital expenditures accelerated sharply in 2Q 2026, growing 92 percent, according to a newly published report from Dell'Oro Group. Continued AI infrastructure investment supported growth across compute, storage, networking, and physical infrastructure, while rising memory and storage prices significantly increased server average selling prices. Baron Fung, Vice President of Research at Dell'Oro Group, said spending remained concentrated in NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra and hyperscaler custom accelerators, while agentic AI created incremental demand for general-purpose compute, storage, and complementary networking. Neocloud providers and AI model builders posted the fastest capex growth among customer segments, reflecting the early stages of their infrastructure buildouts, and Dell led server OEM revenue, followed by Supermicro and Lenovo, while white-box server revenue reached a record high. Fung added that ongoing accelerator deployments and emerging agentic AI and AI-related storage workloads should sustain strong capex growth through the remainder of 2026 and beyond, although supply constraints could limit the pace at which planned infrastructure is deployed.

Dell Shares Rise 5.8% as Axelera AI's Europa Chip Enters Its Servers

Dell Technologies shares rose about 5.8% to $565.15 on Tuesday after European startup Axelera AI unveiled its Europa inference processor, which Reuters reported is designed for enterprise inference workloads and is expected to appear in future systems from Dell and Supermicro. Axelera says more than 600 customers already use its technology, with signed agreements worth tens of millions of dollars and a broader potential sales pipeline that could reach $1.5 billion, an opportunity estimate rather than booked revenue. Dell's larger AI engine remains its server business, which exited the latest quarter with roughly $95 billion of AI-server backlog after shipping $16.4 billion of AI systems. Even if Axelera captured the full $1.5 billion opportunity, that would equal only about 1.6% of Dell's existing AI backlog. The strategic takeaway is that Europa gives Dell another inference supplier and potentially more power-efficient hardware choices, though Nvidia-based systems still carry far more weight in Dell's near-term AI economics.

Dell Seeks $4 Billion Bond Sale to Refinance 2026 Debt as AI Demand Lifts Outlook

Dell Technologies is looking to raise roughly $4 billion through an investment-grade bond sale, mainly to refinance debt coming due in 2026. The offering is expected to be split into four tranches with maturities ranging from three to 10 years, though the final amount will depend on investor demand. Most of the proceeds are expected to go toward repaying Dell's 4.9% notes due in October 2026, with the proposed 10-year tranche reportedly marketed at a spread of as much as 140 basis points over Treasuries. The timing reflects Dell's strengthening position: Bloomberg reported the company has lifted its fiscal-year sales forecast by $25 billion, and Reuters said strong demand for AI servers pushed Dell to raise its revenue and profit outlook for the second time this year. Bloomberg also reported Dell's stock has climbed roughly 340% this year.

Nscale Seeks $3.5 Billion Pre-IPO Funding, Testing Dell and Nokia Ties

Nscale is reportedly pursuing about $3.5 billion in pre-IPO financing, a proposed transaction that Reuters reported on September 4 citing a person familiar with the matter. The talks matter to Dell Technologies and Nokia, which already hold commercial and investment ties to the AI infrastructure company, though better funding for the customer would not automatically become revenue for either supplier. Dell described its Nscale collaboration in November 2025, identifying PowerEdge XE9712 servers, rack integration and support alongside NVIDIA's GB300 NVL72 platform, while Nokia's September 2025 agreement made it a preferred networking partner across data center switching, IP routing and optical networking. Nscale's March 9 announcement of a $2 billion Series C, which named Dell and Nokia among its backers, establishes a separate, earlier relationship. Preferred status does not mean exclusivity or a fixed share of Nscale's purchases, and Dell's own description includes other networking suppliers, so more campuses need not produce proportional Nokia sales. The decisive evidence will come from funded deployments, supplier orders and cash collection.

Dell Sees Early-Stage AI Adoption as $95B Server Backlog Signals Demand

Dell Technologies founder and CEO Michael Dell said enterprises are still in the early stages of adopting artificial intelligence infrastructure, with only about 10% to 15% of companies understanding AI's strategic importance and moving to implement it. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Dell said the company exited the quarter with $95 billion in AI server backlog after converting $130 billion in orders over the past year, and it now supports 6,500 enterprise AI Factory customers. He said roughly 85% of data remains on-premises, and that most of the world's 50 largest economies have two or three sovereign AI projects underway, with perhaps half of that opportunity outside the United States. Dell said the semiconductor supply environment could stay structurally constrained and become more difficult in 2027 than in 2026, though customers are now focused on securing product availability rather than price alone. He also said Dell IP storage grew 26% and PC revenue rose 20% in the prior quarter, and that operating expenses have fallen to roughly 8% of sales.

Michael Dell overtakes Jeff Bezos as world's third-richest person

Michael Dell surpassed Jeff Bezos in Forbes' billionaire rankings on Tuesday, reaching the third spot on the wealth list for the first time as Dell Technologies stock closed at a record high. By Tuesday's closing bell, Dell's fortune had grown by $4.6 billion to an estimated $267.7 billion, according to Forbes. Dell Technologies stock rose 1.9% to close at $533.88, touching an intraday high of $538.47. Bezos' net worth fell $1.4 billion to $265.2 billion as Amazon stock slipped 0.6%. Dell now trails only Alphabet co-founder Larry Page, worth an estimated $277.9 billion, and Tesla chief Elon Musk at $942 billion. Dell Technologies stock has surged 327% year-to-date, opening the period at roughly $128 per share. Michael Dell holds roughly a 40% stake in the company and has significant holdings in DFO Management, his private investment firm. That wealth growth, which has more than doubled his net worth over the past year, lifted him above Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison on the rankings in recent months, according to Forbes. The stock surge has been driven by booming demand for artificial intelligence hardware. In last week's second-quarter earnings report, Dell Technologies posted record quarterly revenue of $47 billion, a 58% year-over-year jump, alongside adjusted earnings per share of $7.04 — more than triple the figure from twelve months prior. The AI-optimized server segment generated $16.4 billion in revenue for the quarter, twice the prior-year total, while new orders hit a record $60.9 billion. The company ended the quarter with a backlog of $95 billion in AI servers. On the strength of those results, Dell Technologies raised its full-year revenue guidance by $25 billion to $192 billion, with $74 billion expected from AI-optimized server sales. Full-year adjusted EPS guidance was lifted to $25.50 from a prior forecast of $17.90. "Our advantages reinforce one another, and throughout the quarter we used these strengths to drive growth, share gains, profitability, and cash generation," CFO David Kennedy said in a statement. Dell Technologies has been expanding its AI product lineup beyond servers. The company introduced an on-premises AI agent product built on Nvidia software aimed at giving enterprises an alternative to running AI workloads in the cloud, a market it has been targeting as agentic AI costs increase for enterprise buyers.

US PC Shipments Grew 1.0% in 2Q26, Full-Year Forecast to Decline 10.7%

New Omdia research shows that US PC shipments, excluding tablets, grew 1.0% year-over-year in 2Q26 to 18.8 million units, returning to growth after a 7.0% decline in 1Q26, but the firm forecasts a 10.7% decline for the full year and an 18.4% drop in the second half of 2026. Growth was driven by retailers and channel partners securing inventory ahead of price increases from memory and storage supply constraints, pushing average PC sell-in prices above $1,000 for the first time, up 12.0% year-over-year. Shipments of PCs priced below $699 fell 6.5%, while those above $1,500 jumped 36.8%, and AI PCs accounted for 48.3% of shipments, forecast to exceed 50% in 3Q26. Apple moved into third place ahead of Lenovo with shipments up 32.1%, while Dell fell 8.8% and HP declined 3.7%, though both recorded revenue growth. Omdia projects US PC shipments to decline a further 4.9% in 2027, with revenue down 6.0% as higher prices fail to offset lower volumes.

AI Gold Rush Era Brings Chain of Positive Impacts

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has begun to generate real applications and revenue at the enterprise level, creating a chain of positive impacts from software and cloud to semiconductors. Yuanta Securities noted that AI adoption is transforming software costs into cloud revenue, with companies like Snowflake, Salesforce, and ServiceNow benefiting from AI agents, while NVIDIA is expanding its moat by controlling the source through Hugging Face. However, SEMICON Taiwan 2026 highlighted bottlenecks, such as TSMC's demand for chip-making equipment nearly doubling in six months, and memory issues that forced Google to reuse DDR4. The Asian supply chain is fully benefiting, with South Korea's semiconductor exports surging 209% year-over-year. Earnings from Dell, Broadcom, Snowflake, Credo, and Palo Alto Networks reflect strong demand, such as Dell's record-high AI server orders at $60.9 billion and Broadcom's AI revenue growing 221%.

Dell Study: Singapore AI Ambition Outpaces Readiness

Dell Technologies' Modern Enterprise Readiness Study 2026 reveals that Singapore enterprises are accelerating AI deployments, yet 79% will not move forward without proven business outcomes and risk management plans. The survey of 2,950 decision-makers across 35 countries, including 100 in Singapore, shows that 58% cannot keep pace with change and 60% lack an actionable roadmap. Data sovereignty concerns, storage bottlenecks, and ungoverned Shadow AI are stalling progress, with 82% citing storage performance as the primary technical barrier and 76% saying data centres are not ready for AI workloads. Power constraints are also critical, as 89% cite energy limits as a core purchasing factor. Dell's Andy Sim notes that ambition is outpacing readiness, and most AI projects will stay in pilot mode until infrastructure and security gaps are resolved.

Super Micro Climbs 4% on Margin Beat, But Guidance Signals Pullback

Super Micro Computer shares rose 4% to $41.07 in midday trading after the company reported a fiscal Q4 2026 non-GAAP gross margin of 17.6%, well above its prior guidance, but management has already guided the current quarter's margin down to 10.4% to 10.8%. The beat was driven by favorable customer and product mix, with CFO David Weigand noting a non-recurring benefit from lower tariff costs and inventory reserves. Meanwhile, Hewlett Packard Enterprise advanced 5% to $54.71 without any fresh company news, and Dell Technologies lifted its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to $192 billion on record AI orders of $60.9 billion. The rally is narrow to the AI server sector, with the Invesco QQQ Trust essentially flat. Super Micro's fiscal 2027 revenue guidance stands at $65 billion to $72 billion, but the margin reset highlights the tension between booming demand and normalizing profitability.

Dell and NVIDIA Battle for Enterprise AI Infrastructure Dollars

Dell Technologies and NVIDIA both reported blockbuster AI quarters, revealing a direct competition for enterprise AI infrastructure spending. Dell posted $46.97 billion in Q2 FY27 revenue, up 57.75% year over year, with AI-Optimized Servers hitting $16.4 billion and a record $95 billion backlog, while NVIDIA cleared $96.22 billion in revenue, up 105.85%, with data center revenue at $89.02 billion and 75% gross margins. Dell's free cash flow fell 47% to under $1 billion due to AI-server mix, but its $170 billion market cap offers cheaper exposure to the AI wave compared to NVIDIA's $5.56 trillion. NVIDIA is moving up the stack into rack-scale systems, directly challenging Dell's integrator role, while Dell's AI customer count crossed 6,500. Analysts suggest NVIDIA for compounding platform economics, but Dell for turnaround-flavored operating leverage, with Dell's year-to-date rally of 320.24% reflecting a re-rating of its integrator role.
