AAI beats Q2 profit, pays dividend, but US tariff looms

  • Q2 profit beat and dividend AAI's second-quarter profit beat expectations by 32%, with a better gross margin, and the company declared an interim dividend of 0.1416 baht per share. This shows the business is more profitable than thought and returns cash to shareholders, supporting the stock price.

This is the most direct company-specific positive news, showing earnings strength and shareholder returns.

  • Strong Thai exports boost pet food demand Thailand's exports grew strongly in June, July, and August 2026, with pet food exports rising 17-22% each month. AAI is a pet food exporter, so this rising demand directly supports its sales and profits.

Export data directly reflects demand for AAI's main product, pet food, and shows a sustained positive trend.

  • Brokers name AAI as a standout export stock Krungsri Securities and Phillip Securities both named AAI as a stock to benefit from Thailand's strong August export growth, especially in pet food. Being highlighted by brokers can attract more investors to buy the stock.

Broker recommendations can influence investor sentiment and buying activity, directly affecting the stock price.

  • US tariff on Thai pet food A new US tariff of 12.5% under Section 301 applies to Thai pet food, including AAI's products. This makes AAI's exports to the US more expensive, potentially reducing demand and squeezing profits, and is a risk for the second half of the year.

This is a direct negative factor for AAI's exports and profitability, providing a counterweight to the positive news.

Thai Exports Surge 24.3% in August, Highest in 56 Months, Full-Year Growth Seen at 15%

The Ministry of Commerce reported that Thailand's exports in August 2026 were worth 34.618 billion dollars, expanding 24.3% year-on-year, the highest growth in 56 months since December 2021. Imports were worth 37.101 billion dollars, expanding 25.1%, resulting in a trade deficit of 2.482 billion dollars for August. The main supporting factors came from electronics and technology products, continued expansion of exports to the United States, and the recovery of fruit exports along with potential agricultural and food products such as pet food. For the first eight months of this year, total exports were worth 266.149 billion dollars, expanding 18.9%, while total imports were 303.986 billion dollars, expanding 36.1%, leaving a trade deficit of 37.837 billion dollars. The Trade Policy and Strategy Office still forecasts 2026 exports at 5% to 11%, with a midpoint of 8%, and will review the target again in November. But given the eight-month growth rate of 18.9%, full-year 2026 exports are estimated to expand by as much as 15%, representing a record high of 391.2674 billion dollars, which would require average monthly exports of 31 billion dollars over the remaining four months. Krungsri Securities said Thailand's August export figures were close to market expectations, but high imports still pushed Thailand to a trade deficit of 2.48 billion dollars. Notable expanding export categories included electronic components, rubber, shrimp, chicken, and pet food. It holds a positive view on DELTA, HANA, GFPT, ITC, and AAI, recommending trading with a focus on DELTA. Phillip Securities sees positive sentiment for export stocks in categories that grew well in August, as well as stocks in the industrial estate and utilities groups.
DELTA.BK · Demand · Positive Krungsri holds a positive view on DELTA and recommends trading with a focus on it, as electronics exports expanded strongly in August.

This brings the first seven months' growth to 18.2%, and builds confidence that full-year exports will grow at a double-digit rate. Although there was a trade deficit this month, it narrowed from the previous month. Beneficiary stock groups include electronics (KCE, HANA) growing 67% on AI trends and global component demand; refined oil (PTTEP, TOP, SPRC) expanding 120%; agricultural and food products, rubber (STA, NER) up 33%; pet food (ITC, AAI) up 17%; and processed chicken still expanding well. However, risk factors from additional US semiconductor industry tariffs may impact Thai stocks such as HANA, CCET, KCE, and DELTA more in terms of negative sentiment than direct earnings impact, as Thailand is in the production chain that could face indirect shocks from slowing global goods demand.

AAI expects orders for pet food to continue recovering in the second half, supported by seasonal sales and the North American market, while hoping for a boost from the weak baht, as over 90% of export revenue is in US dollars but main costs are in baht, which should help improve margins. Ms. Keti Uma Ekat, Assistant Director of Finance and Investor Relations, said that in the second half, there are still signs of order recovery from customers in the US and Canada, following clarity on import tariffs. AAI says 12.5% US tariff has no impact, orders return after clarity

AAI confirms that the US raising import tariffs on Thai goods to 12.5% does not have much impact, as it is a small increase from the previous rate and trading partners have already accepted it. Thailand had previously faced a 19% tariff before it was reduced to 10%. The clarity on the tariff rate has prompted previously hesitant trading partners to resume normal ordering. Managing Director Ekaraj Phansang revealed that AAI still holds a structural advantage in the high-quality wet food segment that requires skilled labor, which US competitors cannot produce at competitive costs. The US market continues to grow 1 to 2% per year despite its already large base, and the company is also pushing ahead with European market expansion while benefiting from a weaker baht that supports profits, as almost all revenue is in foreign currencies while most costs are in baht. The earnings trend for the second half of the year is expected to be better than the first half, in line with orders starting to return.
AAI.BK · Tariff · Positive AAI confirms 12.5% US tariff has no material impact and orders are returning after clarity.
USDTHB.FOREX · Monetary · Positive Article states weaker baht supports profits, implying baht weakness is beneficial for the company, but no direct policy action on the pair.

Asia Plus says new US tariff measures to pressure Thai exports in second half

Asia Plus Securities' research unit says new US tariff measures under Section 301, one of the risks to Thai exports in the second half of the year, will slow exports because Thailand faces a 12.5% levy, higher than some ASEAN peers like the Philippines and Malaysia, potentially reducing competitiveness. Thailand also runs a growing surplus with the US, and markets must watch for surplus-production tariffs the US has yet to announce, which will pressure the Thai economy's export sector. Product groups hit by the 12.5% tariff include pet food, processed food, and beverages, covering stocks such as AAI, ITC, PLUS, TU, and COCOCO, as well as electronics, including HANA, DELTA, KCE, and CCET. Major Thai goods exempted from the 12.5% tariff are oil, gas, and fertiliser, which the US imports heavily, easing pressure on refinery and oil stocks like PTT, PTTEP, TOP, IRPC, and BCP, and goods already under Section 232, such as automobiles, steel, aluminium, and copper, which eases pressure on processed steel and steel pipe stocks like PAP, TMT, and SAM, and auto parts stocks like AH and SAT. The Commerce Ministry reported that Thai exports in June 2026 grew 20.8% year-on-year, above the market forecast of 15.2%, while imports rose 50.3%, above the 35.8% forecast, resulting in a trade deficit of 6.565 billion US dollars. Standout products included pet food, up 22.3%, expanding for a tenth straight month; rubber, up 12.5%, returning to growth for the first time in 14 months; and processed chicken, up 6.1%, expanding for a seventh consecutive month.
AAI.BK · Tariff · Negative AAI (pet food) is directly hit by 12.5% US tariff under Section 301.

Phillip Securities says impact of US tariffs on Thai stocks limited, recommends monitoring animal feed and electronic components sectors

Phillip Securities assesses that the impact of the new US tariff wall on Thai stocks will be limited. Exempted goods include electronic components, communication equipment and devices, computer storage units, and other electronic devices, meaning stocks in the electronic components sector such as KCE, HANA, DELTA, and CCET will see minimal impact. Meanwhile, animal feed stocks like ITC and AAI may experience some effects. In a worst-case scenario, ITC's profit could decline by 240 million baht, or 7.1% from current levels, but the new base price of 18.02 baht still offers 5.88% upside from the current price. Thailand's trade figures for June 2026 continued to expand, with exports growing 8% year-on-year and imports rising 3% year-on-year.
