Porsche Bets on Gas Engines as EV Sales and China Deliveries Slump
Porsche is betting that a return to gas-powered vehicles will drive its turnaround, but the pivot may not be enough to fill a costly near-term gap. CEO Michael Leiters, in place since January, plans to bring back a combustion-engine Macan to sell alongside the electric version, though not until 2028, after the outgoing gas Macan's production was slated to end in July. Electric Macan sales dropped 40% in the first half of 2026 and Taycan EV deliveries fell 25%, while the 911 was the only model line to grow, up 19%. HSBC estimates the timing gap will cost Porsche around 25,000 units and roughly €500 million ($563 million) in profit in 2027, and forecasts operating profit will fall 8% that year. China deliveries sank 32% in the first half to around 14,500 units, extending a four-year decline, and first-half revenue fell 5% to 17.23 billion euros ($19.4 billion) even as operating profit rose 34% to 1.35 billion euros ($1.5 billion). On Sept. 18, Volkswagen said it would take a non-cash impairment of around 6 billion euros ($6.8 billion) on goodwill tied to Porsche, and investors will hear more on Oct. 7 at Porsche's capital markets day.

Eni and Repsol Weigh Partial Sale of Venezuela's Perla Gas Field
Eni and Repsol are considering selling a portion of their stakes in the Perla natural gas field off Venezuela's coast, Bloomberg reported Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter. The two European energy groups currently own 50% each of the venture and are seeking additional funds to help develop the massive offshore field, which they discovered in 2009 in shallow waters close to Venezuela's border with Colombia. Perla is estimated to hold approximately 17T cubic feet of gas, making it one of the largest gas fields in Latin America. In April, the companies reached a deal with the Venezuelan government to begin natural gas exports from the oil-rich nation by the end of 2031, an agreement with interim president Delcy Rodríguez that will enable the duo to more than double production at the Perla field. Eni and Repsol did not respond to Bloomberg's requests for comment.
Daimler Truck Defence targets €1 billion in defense revenue by 2028
Daimler Truck folded its military work into a single global brand, Daimler Truck Defence, in June and is targeting €1 billion in defense revenue by 2028, backed by a planned investment it describes as a mid-three-digit million-euro sum over the coming years. About 1,000 employees work in the business today, and Daimler expects that number to grow, particularly at its Wörth am Rhein plant in Germany, where military chassis share the same plants and parts bins as its commercial trucks. Two large programs anchor the order book: France's Ministry of the Armed Forces selected Daimler Truck and French partner Arquus in January for its PL6T program, a framework covering up to 7,000 Zetros-based trucks with deliveries running more than 10 years, and in Canada Daimler is supplying more than 1,500 Zetros logistics trucks to the Logistics Vehicle Modernization program, where General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada is prime contractor and Marshall Canada builds mission modules. Germany's Bundeswehr has also ordered military logistics vehicles in the three-digit unit range, and CEO Dennis Kinzelmann said France will most likely become the unit's largest defense customer on the strength of the PL6T award, closely followed by Canada, with Germany still on a very important level. Kinzelmann said shared civil content on a military Arocs could run north of 70 to 80 percent, and that Daimler Truck's aftersales network spans more than 160 countries to support fleets kept in service for 20 to 30 years.

El-Erian Says Fed Alone Can't Fix US Economy as Rate-Cut Odds Shift
Mohamed El-Erian, chief economic adviser at Allianz, warned that monetary policy should not be the only game in town and that fiscal policy must share the burden of addressing the US economy's problems. Speaking Friday on Yahoo Finance's live morning show The 8:30, El-Erian said the deficit is chief among the problems ill-suited for the Fed to handle, calling a 6% of GDP deficit "ridiculous" given unemployment at 4.2%. He cautioned that relying too heavily on rate hikes would sacrifice the housing and car loan markets and worsen the economy's K-shaped divide between the haves and have nots. His remarks came as market expectations shifted sharply, with an almost 80% probability as of Friday afternoon that the Fed holds rates steady, down from a week earlier when an October hike was seen as likely. El-Erian said no rate decision can fix the debt, the spending, or the Iran conflict, yet markets continue to hang on the Fed's every move.
Bayer to Invest 2.2 Billion Dollars in New Ohio Manufacturing Site
Bayer announced on Friday plans to invest 2.2 billion U.S. dollars in a new pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, Ohio. The project builds on more than seven billion dollars in U.S. pharma research, development and manufacturing spend over the past five years and is a central element of Bayer's long-term growth strategy in its largest pharmaceuticals market. Bayer expects to create around 600 high-value jobs in the New Albany International Business Park and roughly 1,500 construction jobs during the facility's construction. The flexible, modular campus will combine drug substance and drug product manufacturing and initially support Bayer's growing portfolio in oncology, cardiovascular and renal care, with the first drug substance module expected to become operational in 2031 and a second drug product module planned for 2034. The new site will complement Bayer's U.S. pharmaceuticals headquarters in Whippany, New Jersey, and its other sites in Pittsburgh, Berkeley, Cambridge, Research Triangle Park and San Diego.

Eni CEO Meets Milei as Argentina LNG Nears Year-End Investment Decision
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met Argentine President Javier Milei in Paris on Friday to discuss energy investment and progress on the Argentina LNG project, which its developers aim to take to a final investment decision before the end of the year. Argentina LNG is being developed by Eni, state-controlled YPF and Abu Dhabi-based XRG to monetize Vaca Muerta gas through an integrated production, processing, transportation and export system. The initial development would have LNG production capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum using two floating LNG facilities of 6 million tonnes annually each, with production currently scheduled to begin in 2030, while the partners evaluate an expansion that could lift capacity to 18 million tonnes per year. The consortium signed a binding joint development agreement in February covering the 12-mtpa phase, Eni agreed in June to acquire a 32% interest in the Meseta Buena Esperanza, Aguada Villanueva and Las Tacanas blocks in Vaca Muerta, and the project applied in August to enter Argentina's Large Investment Incentive Regime, or RIGI, a step the consortium described as a milestone toward the planned year-end investment decision. The two FLNG units are expected to be located offshore Río Negro province, and Eni said Milei and Descalzi also discussed the importance of a stable framework for long-term energy investment, with the company identifying international markets including Europe as potential destinations for future Argentine LNG supplies.

Daimler Truck Urges Europe to Scale Electric Truck Infrastructure
Daimler Truck laid out what it says Europe needs to move battery-electric and hydrogen trucks from early adopters into mainstream fleets, including public megawatt chargers, truck-ready hydrogen stations and road tolls that reward zero-emission vehicles, with CEO Karin Rådström making the case at the company's Media Night in Hanover, Germany, ahead of IAA Transportation 2026. Mercedes-Benz Trucks held about 38% of Europe's market for locally CO2-free medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the first half of 2026, and customers have driven the eActros 600 more than 160 million kilometers since series production began at the end of 2024. Heavy-duty battery-electric trucks took 2% of Europe's market in 2025, and Daimler Truck estimates about 35% of new trucks would need to run on batteries or hydrogen by 2030 to meet EU CO2 targets. Europe has fewer than 2,000 public truck charge points today, most of them standard CCS chargers, and Rådström said it needs 35,000 megawatt charging points by 2030, along with 1,000 hydrogen stations, up from around 187 today, most of which supply only 350 bar. On cost, she pointed to CO2-based road tolls, saying the toll difference between a diesel truck and an electric truck in Germany comes out to about 33 to 35 cents per kilometer, but only 13 of the EU's 27 member states have adopted CO2-based tolls. Dachser chief development officer Stefan Hohm said the German logistics provider has 25 emission-free delivery areas in Europe and more than 200 battery-electric trucks on the road, including more than 160 Mercedes-Benz Actros models, out of a fleet of more than 15,000, and called grid access and capacity the main pain point. The eActros Lowliner opened for orders Sept. 15, with series production at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, Germany, set for the second quarter of 2027, and a small series of 100 Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 fuel-cell trucks enters customer operations from the end of 2026 with Dachser as the first customer. Daimler Truck is asking the EU for an early review of its heavy-duty CO2 regulation, whose 2030 target calls for a 43% cut in CO2 emissions from new heavy-duty vehicles compared with 2019, and puts the cost of falling short at about €120 million in penalties for each percentage point Mercedes-Benz Trucks misses.

Volkswagen sustainability chief says China's EV rise demands adaptation, not tariffs
Volkswagen's chief sustainability officer Dirk Voeste said Europe's automakers must adapt to Chinese competition rather than try to preserve the old industrial model with tariffs or slogans. Volkswagen's deliveries in China fell 36.6% in the second quarter, and a company spokesperson told Fortune the Chinese automotive market has declined by 20% year-over-year, with Volkswagen's share down 26%, though the company remains the leader in combustion-engine vehicles with a market share over 22%. Volkswagen expects the overall Chinese market for new vehicles to decline to below 21 million vehicles this year and said Volkswagen Group China cannot escape the trend and is adjusting its plans accordingly. Voeste, who joined Volkswagen in 2023 after 22 years at BASF, described the company's Regenerate+ sustainability framework, built with more than 100 employees rather than an outside consultancy, and said the circular economy around remanufacturing, refurbishment, used parts and material reuse is really a new profit pool. He said his daughter's challenge to clean up the mess his generation left became a private mission statement, and argued that companies and economies that endure will be those that change before outside pressure forces them to.

European companies seen posting 19.4% profit growth in third quarter, but pace to slow
Analysts expect third-quarter earnings at major European companies to rise 19.4% from a year earlier, according to data published on the first of the month by LSEG's IBES. While the energy sector is the main driver, the pace of profit growth is expected to slow from the second quarter. Excluding the energy sector, companies in the STOXX Europe 600 index are seen posting profit growth of 9.9%, with consumer cyclical goods makers showing the strongest growth, followed by the technology sector. Analysts raised their profit-growth forecast for the technology sector to 23.8% from 13.1% as of July. The energy sector is expected to post profit growth of 98.6%, but that would be a slowdown from 138.6% in the second quarter, with high fuel prices supporting the strong profit growth; North Sea Brent prices rose about 14% in September, and diesel refining margins hit a record high. The real estate sector, meanwhile, is expected to see the sharpest decline, with profit down 71.4% from a year earlier. Revenue for STOXX Europe 600 constituents is seen rising 10.6%, or 4.3% excluding the energy sector, with four sectors expected to post lower revenue. Sweden's H&M, the fashion retail giant and the first index constituent to report results, beat profit expectations thanks to a temporary U.S. tariff refund, but its revenue growth was lackluster. Analysts expect fourth-quarter profit growth of 35.1% for index constituents, though the index fell 1.3% on the first day of the quarter amid rising bond yields.
Infineon opens new semiconductor plant in Thailand with total project cost of 1.4 billion dollars
German semiconductor giant Infineon Technologies opened a new plant in Thailand on the first of the month. The new facility on the outskirts of Bangkok is a back-end site handling semiconductor assembly and testing, with an initial investment of more than 100 million euros, or 113.57 million dollars, while the total project value reaches 1.4 billion dollars according to a statement from Thailand's Board of Investment. YPF's $24B Argentina LNG Project Wins Up to $6B in U.S. Export-Import Bank Financing
The U.S. Export-Import Bank has offered up to $6 billion in financing for the Argentina LNG project, the $24 billion natural gas development led by Argentina's YPF Sociedad Anónima alongside Italy's Eni and Abu Dhabi's ADNOC. The project, expected to become the largest infrastructure project in Argentina's history, is designed to extract and monetize the country's shale gas resources and will require $24 billion to build natural gas processing facilities, pipelines and liquefaction units, with the consortium seeking financing to fund part of those costs. The partners intend to make a final investment decision in November this year, though they may proceed with only letters of intent from banks and export credit agencies to finalize lending terms. Earlier this month, YPF said it was on track to sign two to three LNG sales agreements covering a combined capacity of 500 thousand to 1.5 million metric tons per year, deals the companies aim to secure before the November final investment decision. Mercedes Signs Production Deal With Wayve for AI Driver Technology
Mercedes-Benz Group AG has entered into a definitive production agreement with British autonomous driving startup Wayve to integrate its AI Driver technology into future Mercedes vehicles, with integration expected to begin within the next two years. The deal marks the first production deployment of Wayve's end-to-end driving AI in a premium vehicle and builds on the existing partnership between the companies, including Mercedes-Benz's investment in Wayve's $1.5 billion Series D funding round earlier this year. Under the agreement, Wayve has integrated its AI Driver with Mercedes' production system architecture, including the automaker's hardware, MB.OS operating system and mapping interfaces. Mercedes-Benz is expanding its MB.OS software platform across the vehicle lineup, including both BEVs and ICE vehicles, and expects to expand its AI-based point-to-point assisted-driving technology into Europe as regulations allow. The company also lowered its 2026 sales outlook and now expects full-year sales to be slightly below 2025 levels, largely because of weaker-than-expected conditions in China, where the auto market declined roughly 20% in the second quarter.

Venezuela Oil Revival Draws Eni, Chevron, TotalEnergies and Halliburton
Venezuela's oil and gas industry is drawing renewed interest from international energy companies, with fresh agreements involving major producers and oilfield service firms pointing to stepped-up development of the country's hydrocarbon resources. Eni and PDVSA signed a 25-year hydrocarbon participation contract on Sept. 2, 2026, making Eni the exclusive operator of the Junín-5 heavy-oil area, which holds 35 billion barrels of certified oil in place and currently produces approximately 12,000 barrels per day; the partners plan to invest approximately $1.5 billion annually, with production expected to reach around 400,000 barrels per day by 2030. Chevron announced updated agreements on Sept. 2, 2026, covering its Venezuelan joint ventures and additional acreage in the Orinoco Belt, underpinning plans to invest more than $7 billion over the next five years and more than double production to approximately 600,000 barrels per day versus 2026 levels, after output from its three Venezuelan joint ventures rose 15% through the second quarter of 2026. TotalEnergies and PDVSA signed a memorandum of understanding on Sept. 19, 2026, setting a framework for energy cooperation, though scope and value were not disclosed, while Halliburton announced MOUs with Eneva and WESCA on Sept. 21, 2026, to support field evaluation and development planning in Venezuela. Uniper Reserves Future SAF Capacity From Syzygy Plasmonics' NovaSAF Platform
Uniper has signed a capacity reservation agreement for future sustainable aviation fuel supply from Syzygy Plasmonics' NovaSAF platform, joining a growing list of aviation fuel buyers backing the company's biogas-to-SAF technology. The agreement adds commercial traction to Syzygy's planned NovaSAF facilities in Central and South America, where NovaSAF-1 in Uruguay is approaching a final investment decision. Syzygy said the deal for its dual-certified pathway helps enhance the European Union's ability to meet mandate targets for both bio and RFNBO SAF. Syzygy CEO Trevor Best said Uniper's decision reflects the commercial traction the platform is attracting at the moment it is most needed to meet mandate volumes, while Uniper SVP New Energies Benedikt Messner said securing access to the technology is another step in building the company's position in a market with significant growth potential. NovaSAF is Syzygy's commercial project platform, converting biogas to sustainable aviation fuel using its proprietary Rigel photocatalytic reactor, with facilities planned globally.
BMW to cut 20% of management positions, bets on AI to lift margin back to 8-10%
BMW is pushing ahead with a major restructuring of its business after coming under pressure from weak demand, competition from Chinese automakers and US tariff measures. It will cut the number of units and related management positions by 20% by mid-2027, and the job-reduction programme is expected to affect around 8,000 positions in Germany. The company is also bringing in artificial intelligence, or AI, to help cut down on work steps and speed up decision-making within the organisation. BMW aims to raise its automotive margin, which stood at 2.3% in its latest results, to 3-5% by 2028 and back to 8-10% in the early 2030s. On products, BMW plans to launch an entry-level electric vehicle for the European market in 2028, while in the United States it will focus on luxury SUVs for high-spending customers. In China, it will increase local production and rely more on local partners for technology, especially automated driving systems and software, and is also considering exporting China-made cars to Southeast Asia. The revised plan comes after BMW issued its third profit warning in just over three years, driven by weak performance in China, while its share price has fallen by more than a third over the past year to a low of more than six years. BMW chief executive Milan Nedeljkovic said the plan will help the company cope with intensifying competition in the auto industry in the years ahead, and stressed that it is not a cost-cutting programme.

Digital Euro Pilot to Start in 2027 as Visa and Mastercard Handle 47% of Eurozone Card Payments
The European Central Bank's digital euro project has cleared a key political hurdle, with the European Parliament's economic affairs committee voting 43 to 14 in favor of the digital central bank currency, and a 12-month pilot now scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027 with 36 finance firms including Deutsche Bank, Revolut, Adyen, and UniCredit signed up to participate. Businesses across the EU will be required to accept digital euros, in-store and online, by 2029. The push comes as Visa and Mastercard processed 47% of the eurozone's card payments value in 2025, according to GlobalData, with concentration even higher in the U.K., where 95% of card transactions rely on payment systems owned by the two U.S. companies. Fifteen of the euro area's 21 countries still lack a domestic digital payment solution, according to the ECB, and no current European payment scheme works seamlessly across the entire bloc. The ECB estimates the digital euro could collectively cost European banks €4 billion to €6 billion over four years, with its own setup costs estimated at €1.3 billion and ongoing operating costs of roughly €300 million a year. The project faces uneven support from some of Europe's largest banks, as BNP Paribas, Commerzbank, and Rabobank have all backed Wero, a bank-funded digital wallet with 50 million users, and it has taken six years to reach the pilot stage.

Volkswagen Terminates Wage Agreements with IG Metall, January Strikes Possible
German auto giant Volkswagen on the 30th terminated several wage agreements with IG Metall, the country's largest industrial union. The scrapped agreements include a comprehensive wage deal covering roughly 100,000 workers at major domestic plants. IG Metall chief Thorsten Groeger, noting that the union's strike truce ends on January 1, vowed a fierce counterattack, raising the likelihood of strikes early in the new year. CEO Oliver Blume is pursuing the boldest restructuring in Volkswagen Group's history, and labor relations have deteriorated further in recent months. Behind this is the reality that Chinese automakers are focusing on the European market, intensifying pressure on Germany's auto industry. Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz have warned that plant closures are possible unless costs can be cut to a level that can withstand the competition. According to Volkswagen, the two sides agreed to hold talks again in late October. This is Volkswagen's first partial termination of labor agreements with the union since September 2024, when it triggered a wave of strikes and ultimately led to a historic labor deal that included 35,000 job cuts.
EnviTec Biogas H1 2026 Revenue Rises to EUR 169.2 Million as Earnings Decline
EnviTec Biogas AG reported first-half 2026 results in line with its plans, with revenues rising to EUR 169.2 million from EUR 148.4 million a year earlier while earnings fell as expected. Consolidated total output reached EUR 182.9 million, up from EUR 164.9 million, but EBITDA slipped to EUR 21.4 million from EUR 26.3 million, earnings before taxes fell to EUR 4.4 million from EUR 10.2 million, and consolidated net income dropped to EUR 3.1 million from EUR 8.1 million, with earnings per share of EUR 0.21 versus EUR 0.55. The decline was mainly due to higher costs of placing bio-LNG on the market and the retroactive abolition of double counting for advanced biofuels from 1 January 2026, and a substantial proportion of ongoing Plant Construction projects had not yet been finally invoiced as at 30 June 2026. In Own Plant Operation, the group's largest segment, revenues rose to EUR 123.4 million from EUR 107.1 million while segment EBT fell to EUR 14.4 million from EUR 20.6 million; the Service segment posted revenues of EUR 23.8 million and EBT of EUR -3.3 million, and Plant Construction total output doubled to EUR 36.5 million with EBT improving to EUR -6.8 million and an order backlog of EUR 143.1 million, of which EUR 112.1 million relates to international projects, particularly in Sweden and Spain. EnviTec secured awards for plants with around 16 MW of electrical capacity in the Federal Network Agency's biomass auction in June 2026 and plans additional investments of around EUR 100 million by 2029 for construction, refurbishment and conversion of further plants to bio-LNG. The company confirmed its full-year 2026 forecast of total output or revenues between EUR 330 million and EUR 370 million and EBT between EUR 5 million and EUR 15 million, and continues to expect rising revenues and earnings in 2027.
ETG.XETRA · Capital · Negative H1 2026 earnings fell sharply (EBITDA EUR 21.4M vs 26.3M, net income EUR 3.1M vs 8.1M) on higher bio-LNG placement costs and loss of double counting for advanced biofuels.

Rand Paul Blocks Senate Bill to Permanently Ban Chinese Connected Vehicles
Republican Senator Rand Paul is blocking the bipartisan Connected Vehicle Security Act of 2026 in the Senate, legislation sponsored by Senators Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan that would prohibit the import, manufacture, and sale of connected vehicles and related software and hardware linked to China and other designated foreign adversaries. The Senate Commerce Committee approved the bill in July, and it was placed on the Senate legislative calendar on September 22. Paul has argued the proposal could impact Mercedes-Benz and Ford Motor, and its proposed ownership threshold has raised questions about whether automakers with Chinese investors, including Aston Martin and Volvo Cars, could also be affected. The bill would go further than a Biden administration Commerce Department regulation from early 2025 that effectively banned Chinese automakers from selling or building passenger vehicles in the U.S. over concerns that sensitive driver data could be sent to China. President Trump added a wildcard last week by saying he would accept Chinese automakers building vehicles in the U.S.
ZIM Gains as Hapag-Lloyd Plans Revised Proposal for $4.2 Billion Deal
ZIM Integrated Shipping rose 3% after Hapag-Lloyd said it plans to submit a revised proposal and seek approval from Israeli regulators for its $4.2 billion acquisition of the Israeli carrier. ZIM disclosed in a 6-K filing on Wednesday that Israel's Government Authority told the company Hapag-Lloyd must file a new proposal in full detail so the regulator and the State of Israel can decide on the transaction, and that regulators are no longer reviewing the deal until a new proposal is made. The development follows a report that the Israeli prime minister's office recommends blocking the $4.2 billion sale, which sent ZIM shares down 2.7% on Monday, with the Treasury also opposed to the combination. That report came hours after another indicating Israel's Economy Minister Nir Barkat may be willing to support the sale, having been convinced the deal can be approved and would benefit Israel. Under the original agreement signed in February, Hapag-Lloyd agreed to acquire ZIM for $35 per share in cash, representing an equity value of approximately $4.2 billion.

Daimler Truck Targets Driverless Public-Road Run by Year-End
Daimler Truck is betting on owning the entire autonomous trucking system, with its Torc Robotics subsidiary aiming to run trucks on public roads with no safety driver in the cab before the end of the year. CEO Karin Rådström said at Daimler Truck's Media Night, ahead of IAA Transportation 2026, that the setup differentiates the company from any other player in the industry, spanning the truck platform and vehicle architecture, hardware integration and autonomous driving software. Daimler Truck North America builds the autonomous-ready chassis with redundancy in steering and braking, while Torc develops the AI-driven system covering perception, planning and driving. First commercial freight operations are planned for 2027, with scaling to begin in 2028, starting on long-haul lanes in North America, where Rådström said trucks travel more than twice the daily distance of European trucks and driver shortages are even more difficult. Torc previously completed driver-out validation in November 2024 on a multi-lane closed course in Texas at speeds up to 65 mph. With Freightliner, Rådström said the company is the clear number one in North American heavy-duty trucks; its Freightliner and Western Star brands held 37.8% of the North American Class 8 market through June, according to Daimler Truck's second-quarter investor presentation, and more than 1 million Cascadias have been sold in the U.S. since the model's 2007 introduction.

JPMorgan Names BAE, Leonardo, Babcock Top European Defence Picks for Q4 2026
JPMorgan said in a note Wednesday that European defense investors are favoring companies with long-duration order books and hard-to-replace products, while marking down those whose technology could be displaced. The European defense sector has underperformed local markets by about 6% this year on average, though with wide variation between individual stocks, analyst David Perry noted. JPMorgan rates BAE Systems, Leonardo and Babcock Overweight, saying all three have those defensive characteristics, while investors have significantly de-rated companies such as Rheinmetall, CSG and Renk on fears their technology could be displaced. JPMorgan placed MTU Aero Engines and Leonardo on Positive Catalyst Watch, ahead of MTU's capital markets day on Nov. 30 and Leonardo's industrial plan update in March 2027, and put Rheinmetall on Negative Catalyst Watch, saying it does not expect the company to cut its 2030 sales goal of 50 billion euros even though the bank's own forecast is 36.9 billion euros. Perry said the debate over technology displacement is complex and the answer will not be clear for many years, making investor events at Rheinmetall on Nov. 27 and Renk on Dec. 8 important, and added that Rolls-Royce and Safran should remain strong performers over the medium term and are core holdings.

Stellantis to Halt Production at Three French Plants Over EV Battery Shortage
European-American auto giant Stellantis announced on the 29th that it will suspend production at three of its French plants for at least one week, citing a shortage of electric vehicle batteries and other factors. The plant in Sochaux in eastern France, which produces the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 SUVs, will halt operations from October 23 to October 30 due to a shortage in the supply of long-range batteries. The Rennes plant in the northwest will also stop operations for the same reason from October 22 to October 30, particularly affecting production of the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV. Stellantis sources long-range batteries from Automotive Cells Company, a joint venture owned by Germany's Mercedes and French oil major TotalEnergies, but a spokesperson said, "Unfortunately, although ACC's production is making great strides, we are still not receiving a sufficient quantity of batteries." The company said demand continues to outpace current supply capacity, explaining that it is temporarily adjusting its production schedule to prevent a buildup of vehicle inventory that does not match customer demand, and added that this is a temporary measure.
